I'm a week in now and this really is a great car... But... Car parking and parking it in the garage is not easy with the doors, which to open are all or nothing so you can't squeeze out of them in small area's just not practical...!

Had mine a couple of months.

As some of you know it replaced an aston v12v.

It is the best car i have ever had.

I drive it everywhere. It's comfy and sooo relaxing in e mode.

It's ridiculously fast in sport mode. A bit like my remapped 996 turbo.

I average 40mpg so far in my driving conditions. Aston was 12-13mpg in similar conditions. 996 turbo was 22mpg. I would get much better mpg if i drove less enthusiastically or recharged it more often.

I love the looks and people are crazy about the car. My sister stayed with us yesterday and i drove her in it around London. She said: why are all those people taking pictures of us?

It surely is not the best car out there and people obviously think differently than me on forums. I could not care less. I have not enjoyed myself in a car more than in this one ever. That is all that matters to me.

Im with Eric on this, loving my i8 sooo much, I brought it as my daily drive and its just so good, a really different car to my other Supercars. The ridiculous torque sitill makes me laugh every time I plant the throttle!

My order was for Sept, but me being me i couldnt wait so I paid overs for a brand new unused Feb 15 car. Then my dealer told me my order had come forward to May. Doh.

So if anyone wants my order before I cancel it this week let me know

Maybe I am missing something but am I the only one that did not feel the car to be that fast? also putting your foot down from 70 to 100+ MPH it just has no power I may as well be in a Fiesta!

I did want to love the car but just feel its a backwards step from a the 991 C2S PDK I drive.

I had two remapped 996 turbo. One was an S. I8 feels similar from 70 to 100. Did you drive the car in sport mode?

Really? I reckon (seat of pants-ometer only) that it's about on a par with my E92 M3, no more. Nice low-down urge though, and decent traction from both ends when pulling out of junctions etc, rather than having to feather to avoid a slide, but overall only about the same. The skinny tyres/my heavy right foot cause the DSC/DTC light to come on fairly frequently too.

Someone around here (Weymouth) has a dark grey/black i8, its surprising large and menacing in person (photos look abit softer IMO) my 3yr old declared it was a "Racing Car!" which reaction alone probably justifies the appeal to me.

I tried to have a look at one while my missus was looking at the i3 but the salesman was hovering and didn't seem keen on tire kickers :-)

Agreed, you are not alone, seems evidence suggest so too... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85ZriQWyKuk

I felt it was a great alternative to a 6 series, and a compelling buy as a company car because of the BIK, but as a private purchase it just didn't light my candle that much.

Mighty impressive thing though.

Evidence? A 991 c2s with power kit. It has 60bhp more than the i8. And it's not that far in front.

In fact the i8 is off the line quicker.

23.7 sec standing km and 10 sec to 100mph is quick whichever way you want to turn it.

Us mags clocked it at 3.8secs to 60 fwiw.

I'm not saying it's not a quick thing, it's perfectly fast enough.

These days cars are so capable and roads so congested it hardly matters.
I can't wring out our M135i on the road let alone anything faster so it really doesn't matter.

The video was interesting as it was basicly the comparison the other guy mentioned.

Putting the i8 on a par with a normal 911 is no shame.

Much as I was impressed with the i8 and it Gavin rear seats it's an impractical daily when you have 2 kids.

The i3 made sense despite me needing it to manage the odd 300 mile day.

However as an incurable petrolhead I couldn't resist ticking another box on my list of great drivers cars. At 10k a bmw e46 m3 is a lot of car for the money. A 35k i3 just seemed a case of tech for techs sake and expensive with it if you aren't buying or leasing through a company and don't do mileage or benefit from CC exemption.

As the kids grow out of car seats I'll probably come back to the i8, still think it's one of the best car designs of the last 10 years...

Collected mine on Friday afternoon - Sitrep as at 3 days and 340 miles in.

Already done duty attending a wedding - so two up and all the overnight gear.
This replacing a BMW 840 as daily driver.
No test drives before delivery - so straight in to the experience
Didn't bother reading the handbook and still haven't (except in extremis to find out how to open the filler cap - uncool at South Mimms)

Impressions:
i) acceleration undoubtedly stunning. It's what the dials say and the speed at which cars retreat in the rear view mirror that gives it away. Much, much, more than "sufficient".
ii) The fingertip precision in all things is entrancing
iii) Great brakes, awesome chassis - so stiff and so light - you can tell, you really can.
iii) Two cars for the price of... Well its two cars anyway. Poles apart. One a ballet dancer of a car, the other a middleweight boxer. And switchable between the two at will. - there might even be two and a few other fractional modes once I get to know it better. That is perhaps its greatest suit and would make me buy another. It's unique in my experience and in my understanding of any possible alternatives. Buy it for this alone.
iv) Engine Sound - Love it. To bits. Love it in sport and all other modes inc when hushed in favour of the turbine electro-whine. They have absolutely got the sound(s) nailed - and that's so important
v) Doors. No problem at all. Have had suicide doored MG's so, to be fair, entry and exit not unfamiliar to me. Doors are light and easy and space efficient - not a quarter the problem I thought they might be. More cars should do this.
vi) Looks - not 100% taken with frontal, but all other angles are beguiling - I am sure it will just get better.
vii) Despite the idrive and everything the volume control on the radio is still an obvious turnable knob. Deft and elegant touch that speaks volumes about the "Human factors" ergonomics research by the boffins.
viii) Boot space much bigger than you think. Perfectly adequate (unless you are a golfer I suppose).

Downsides
i) Rear three quarter vision non existent. Loads of fancy cameras but still not trusting them yet. Am parking with care - great care.
ii) Difficult to know quite when you have turned the thing off. I am still not sure I have locked it or turned the ignition off half the time - more work required on my part.
iii) Not doing 100+mpg yet, Hopefully will do only daily commute once can be bothered to charge it rather and the fun of filling-up convos. wear off

Summary
Deeply and impressively sorted for such a quantum jump. If this is V1.0 of a new line of thought then BMW are indeed all they claim.
Two cars in one. This is the future and it is better. If you or your company can run to this level why buy anything else.
Time to clear out my (non classic)car collection - keeping the Diesel RR P38 manual for the days that require boots and the Mx5 2.0 just to remind me that mechanicals and cloth top can be beguiling too.

Nice mini review

It is certainly a car i would like to own one day. Like you found, finding one to test drive was a bit rare but i could have tried harder.

I ended up ordering a tesla p85d which i'm still waiting for. Didn't drive that either but drove another variant. Maybe the i8 is next on the cards. Seen a couple locally, they do look bigger and more menacing in person.

I have had 2 i8's so far. A temporary one which i bought to wait for my own one to arrive and now 'my' own i8.

I love it more every day. So soothing most of the time and playful when you are in the mood.

The shocking factor is the amount of attention the car attracts. People go crazy for this car.

Love the Dakar Yellow - personally its the only other colour I really go for alongside the Technoviolet.
Have, inevitably, kept the 840, itself a great car(regrettably I have ample covered parking at work to feed my habit).
Buying cars I can do, I'm just crap at selling them!

Teslas? - again haven't test driven any of them, as whilst I admire their numbers I am not as inspired by the engendering design ethos somehow. They are doubtless equally good at effecting licence loss though I am sure! (Faster but usefully more Q to your average plod)
