...and who's getting an i8?
Discussion
This seems the best Forum for I8 owners.
After most of the posters on here had owned their i8 for 6 months (at least) can I ask for any comments now the "honeymoon period" is over?
May well be taking the plunge next week to buy a May 2014 (early build I know) but loaded example or keep my pristine Porsche 991 C2S PDK that I haven't even had a year.
Comments please....!

Amazing lineup! I have just taken delivery of my i3 which i love, teslas are great but it will be the i8 for me next time if i can make it work
Yours is the best colour too imo.
What is the general consensus on financing for the i8s - are there good lease deals to be had or are people using excess company cash and benefitting from the capital allowance?
What are peoples thoughts regarding the depreciation curve on these cars....all cars depreciate but is there any reason why an i8 would depreciate anymore over a 2,3, or 4 year period than any other car in the same money segment..... its such a niche car at the moment is this a good or bad thing come re-sale?

This might make the decision a bit more interesting........

I think this is the unknown for all electric cars really. It could become a bit of a cult car like the Z8 (maybe unlikely given the numbers around), but equally it could date although I doubt that too. The technology may get outdated too with newer sexier stuff. cheers stv
Its hard to know what segment its in but lets say R8s and AM V8 Vantages as 2 seater sports cars. They tend to take a 30k year 1 hit (offset by any discount) then slide gracefully but only to about half their list price. 911 seem to start better but fall further oddly, maybe its because they're not first of a kind in their generation (ie there's nothing like the R8 before it from Audi).
I had an Audi R8 V10 Spyder when it first came out and still to this day is probably the best car I have ever owned. Totally reliable, went like it was possessed (in all weathers) and that V10 howling behind my ears...
I change my cars like my socks and usually promise my long suffering wife that "this one is going to stay for 2 years". I fail miserably bar an MX5 that I've had for 4 years. That really is a keeper.
No idea where the i8 will fall. It is underpowered matching next to my 911 but rewards in so many other ways. (I hope, anyway!) They will of course take a hit in the first year, that's why I have bought a year old example and saved myself £25k. Seemed rude not too.
Porkers fall out of bed far more than they ever did unless you are lucky enough to own a GT3 RS in which case lucky you.
I can't imagine I will keep the i8 anywhere near long enough for it to become a classic, (I gather journalists are predicting this), but mine will be long gone before that happens, if indeed it does.

Its the unknown depreciation curve of the i8 that is preventing me pulling the trigger on a new build......my heart says yes but me head says beware....i realize all cars depreciate but i genuinely think i would be struggling to get £75k from a bmw dealer after just 1 year and say 8000 miles.

Agreed, if I sell mine now I would imagine that's all they would bid me, having paid £8k more. However I picked mine up today and first impressions are out of this world. Even followed the same model of Porsche down the hill towards my house and thought I'd prefer to be in the i8. Still, honeymoon period, let's see if I still feel the same way in 6 months...
It. will be interesting to hear your thoughts on the i8......I think it's a stunning car and I applaude anyone that takes the plunge but I still have a bee in my bonnet regarding the depreciation curve as time goes on regarding this niche vehicle.....does the current depreciation of this vehicle match either better or worse similar cars for the money ??...we all have our trousers pulled down regarding depreciation when buying these types of cars and it's something we have to accept but having my trousers pulled down occasionally is something though unpleasant I can accept to a point but then having to bend over as well it's something I'm not too keen on

No way they will give you £75k one year down the line, there was a private sale low miles 2015 car not long ago for £75k.cheers stv
I would think trade in for a 2015 car one year from now would be £65 to £70k which is too much of a hit to take in one year.
A £90k almost new GTS will hold value much better over the next 12 months.

Had it a week (yesterday). Been too busy really to comment, but at the moment I am smitten (honeymoon period probably).
To drive a car that looks as outrageous as the i8 does IN TOTAL SILENCE is in itself amazing. Took it to Vines in Guildford this morning, (Trackstar fitted), at 7am on the road and it was still pretty dark. The way the interior is lit up at night reminds me of Darth Vaders bathroom. (Really?). It's just feel-good all the way.
All electric is fun, switching over to Sport Mode a lot more so. I've done 140 miles in it, (too many other cars to choose from for bad weather driving), and I've loved every minute. As fast as my Porker? Not sure yet. Seems to sit and corner very flat on the road and take-up is fantastic in road driving. The 911 would be swapping gears, haunching down. Nothing wrong with that of course, but this thing just flies with no drama whatsoever, even if the final speed may not be as quick. But most of the time who cares?
I'll report back when I've done a thousand or so. Should be next Spring.

Considering that i8's between 18 months and 2 years old are selling for around £80k-£85k at the moment....i personally think that you could get between £70k-£75k for a year old example ....just my view......not sure an almost new GTS would be a great deal betterI would think trade in for a 2015 car one year from now would be £65 to £70k which is too much of a hit to take in one year.
