...and who's getting an i8?
Discussion
So, from PH and from Bimmerpost I've only found 5 prospective owners:
purpleperil
erics
Trikster
JasH from Bimmerpost: http://bmwi.bimmerpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t...
Me
Any more?
I don't want to give away any secrets, but if I said Fat Duck at Bray, would that mean anything to anyone?

I guess you're ericsi from Bimmerpost, yes?
There are more on auto trader from speculators trying to make a few quid than you've found potential owners here!
Interestingly you see virtually no i3s for sale second hand. Not sure how much is bmw controlling the market and how much it's people refusing to let go of the car

He seems to like his BMWs - he had an M6 Gran-Coupe when I was there last year and an M5 before that.featuring heavily in one of his TV shows in a product placement kind of way.
I borrowed an i8 for a 24 hour test drive last week, sorry to say I shan't be placing an order.
I had really high hopes, I love the technology and thought it'd be the future, plus the lure of low BIK for something intersting appealed.
I was looking forward to substantial performance, in something semi-exotic....
After 24 hours I came away feeling slightly underwhelmed, it was nice, but didn't feel special.
It's quick enough, and the technology is very clever, but the instuments are difficult to read, it's got less boot space than my Caterham, and the rear seats are pointless.
My thirteen year old lad loved the doors, but the novelty of them soon wears off and then they are a pain.
The battery reserve wen't down really fast, it started with 16 miles after an overnight plug in charge, but soon we't down to zero anfter not many miles.
It was comfyish and quickish, but it just didn't do it for me.

I own an i3 (so see one most days), and I love it.
Having driven the i8, I wouldn't change my i3 for one ...
For my view:
The i3 is a real solution to the short range city car, and it's amazingly tactile and practical.
By comparison the i8 is a tax concession for a Supercar, rather than an electric car to out-do conventional Supercars. The control surfaces were not linear, and I found it less tactile than the i3. Hence a step backwards rather than a step forwards.
On the other hand, my "supercar" is a Cayman R --- so maybe a tough act to follow.

Sounds like they need a bit less engine and a bit more batteries. More EV than ICE. Stick an 850 bike engine in as a genny like they do with the i3 650 bike engine, and give it something like the Telsa P85D motor set up. You then have a proper electric supercar for commuting, with a decent 70+ mile range and unlimited petrol miles for longer trips. Just don't stick a 9 litre tank in like they did with the i3 to get CARB credits in California. I live in the sodding UK! :-(I had really high hopes, I love the technology and thought it'd be the future, plus the lure of low BIK for something intersting appealed.

I had a sit in one and thought nice, bit lacking on space, but then if your just dropping the Mrs out to Selfridges on the way to a business meeting at the Hotel du Vin, it's got all the space you need. Unless she decided to buy you a set of golf clubs, or a TV. I'm pretty sure though, if you have £100k to spend on a car, £25 for a home delivery isn't going to unbalance the family finances.
They really aren't trying to sell them. After meeting bmw face to face at salon Privee and requesting an i8 test drive they didn't get back to me or forward the brochure. A second phone call to local dealer elicited a 'we'll get backto you' and they didn't. A follow up to a bmw group email finally got me a brochure and a 'do t worry you'll hear from us soon' which was 3 weeks ago. I think a model S test drive awaits. It's less cool to look at but tesla do seem to want my money a lot more!
If bmw weren't so poor at sales I'd probably have an i3 or i8 (or both!) by now but I reason that if they are this bad at selling I really don't want to know what the after sales is like!
