This is all interesting stuff folks! Keep it coming...
Here's the journey I would have to do on a fairly regular basis, along with the route I currently take (minimal stops, minimal traffic for least stress).

It's JUST less than 60 miles round trip. Any current EV owners - would you risk this? Charging at the other end is not an option, really unless I park about a mile away and walk the rest.

If I wanted to get cold and wet I'd take one of my 7 motorbikes. If I wanted to pedal I'd take my ancient ProFlex.
Wanna roof. Want cupholders! Sulk!
In all seriousness the frequency of the visits is seasonal. I'm only really there in the winter, and It's dark when I get there and when I leave.
In the summer this route is great on a bike/pushbike. In the winter, not so much. Plus - sweaty hills.

Is there anywhere on the way back you could stop for a top-up and a coffee if necessary? I assume even a short top-up would give you enough to get home
It's 28 miles there, 28 miles back. There's a shopping centre a mile or so away from the other end, I'd probably be able to charge there. I'd rather not though. Are you all seriously saying a current tech EV won't make it?
Maybe I should either:
Get an extended test drive - see if it is feasible,
Or:
Wait a few years for the tech to catch up?

I misunderstood. 28miles each way should be easy. Are you all seriously saying a current tech EV won't make it?

Doable yes, but your suggestion of extended test drive has to make sense. Are you all seriously saying a current tech EV won't make it?

My other half has a ZOE and commutes 39 miles each way every day and doesn't bother plugging in at the office. Most of that is a steady 55/60 on a dual carriageway. She usually has 10 miles+ left at the end of the day (not including the 5-10miles hidden reserve most EV's have ..). There are various youtube vids showing owners pushing them past 100miles just to see what happens as a fail safe. Here's the journey I would have to do on a fairly regular basis, along with the route I currently take (minimal stops, minimal traffic for least stress).

So I'd say don't worry about it.
However, your range will naturally reduce if you want to do 87mph down motorways into a 15mph head wind, and want to do loads of grand prix starts at traffic lights to reach 30 mph in record time ... ;-)
For additional comfort, use Zapmap which allows you to search for top up points based on EV car type :-

I'm on the verge of pulling the trigger at £159 a month over four years.
Exciting! New toy. Quite jealous...Which one, Zoe or Leaf? How many miles per year? Any links to the deal, or are you a hard bargaining, muscle bound company director type and you've basically made them beg you to take one off their hands?
GOT to book a test drive...

Zoe through simply playing three dealers off against each other. 10,000 mile pcp with 8,500 mile battery lease that can be adjusted up or down.Which one, Zoe or Leaf? How many miles per year? Go for it !Sound like a similar deal to the Zoe we bought. She seems to have been completely in love with it ever since.
The total monthly cost of the PCP finance deal + £15 electricity (and no road tax etc) is considerably less than what it was costing to run her wretched MG F for the same usage. She was burning through £200 in petrol per month, road tax was £250 and typically it needed £1k - £2k per year in MOT failures and the rest, and all that with only 50k on the clock. Glad its gone. Horrible thing ..
The Zoe deal was a bit of a no brainer, and so far its performed faultlessly.

I've just had some bad news. They made a mistake, they meant £189.
Next best price is £164, so trying to push them down a bit.
That's the same price I've been quoted for a 4 yr PCP but, with a 7.5k milage allowance. Also includes free servicing, breakdown road side assist, warranty and something else, can't remember...Next best price is £164, so trying to push them down a bit.
