I understood the Zoe came with a free 32A charger installation for all retail customers? Zoe wall box
it is somewhat of a misunderstanding

any ev owner can qualify for a free charger install, it is nothing to do with renault (or any other manufacturer), it is a government funded programme run through the OLEV (office of low emission vehicles)

going the renault recommended route to British Gas will likely lead to a longer wait for an install than other routes
Yup thats it alright. I had already used my grant on a 16a pod point before I knew what a Zoe was. British Gas were about as much use as an ash tray on a motorbike. In the finish I had to source the type 2 lead I needed from EV connectors and get a local sparky to change it over.

Guys - word of warning, I got Zoe to take a real hissy fit tonight and throw up a "check electrical system" fault and basically die on me.

When you turn the car on, wait for the warning lights to go off (ie fully booted up) before you attempt to select drive. I didn't and somehow the car missed the fact the lever was in drive, thought it was still in park and then it when a bit nuts and threw up the fault.

I had to put it back into P and turn it off and on a couple of times to get it to reset. Been fine since though.

So like all women she needs to be turned on properly before she'll perform. biggrin

I've had a total electrical shutdown this morning when I've tried to move the car, all sorts of warning messages on the dash "electrical system failure" "charging impossible" etc.

Not very happy

As you've seen mines threw a mental the same way, but I'm not convinced there's an actual real physical fault, just an annoying bug if you try to move into drive and the software misses the change. I had read other posts on the EV forum about the same sort of thing. Have you managed to reset your Zoe and its okay or is it literally dead/flat bed job.

Nothing would cure it, it's been taken away on a flatbed.

The chap at Renault customer care I have just spoken to said when the "Electrical Fault" warning shows, in reality it should say "you're gonna need a flatbed".

He was very polite & helpful.

I'm going to be without the Zoe until some time early new year.

Really pissed off.

ETA

Renault Sheffield have requested they collect the car from the dealers it currently resides at so they can look into it, they said if they are not 100% happy it's repaired they sort things out, once again, can't fault them.

Daniel at Renault Sheffield is as gutted as I am!!

I've got a Polo Bluemotion, if bland could be distilled into a car, this is it.

if you are resigned to paying for the fuel, then any little bit back you get is a bonus

surely worth mentioning to renault UK when your are back in a (working) Zoe that you spent £X on fuel in the Polo when you would have only spent £Y on electricity

you might get a cheque

Looks like the 400v system is shot. The dealer thinks it may need a new 400v battery & control unit.

Not good on a 4 day old car.

Possibly the long term storage in a wet field doesn't suit electric cars ?

Suprised if its the battery. The motors and invertors on the 400v circuit have been known to fail, but the batteries this is the first one I've read about if it is.

Touch wood - mines been okay so far since its little hissy fit. After reading your replies I think I might be on borrowed time eek

Quite envious of you guys with these Zoe's smile I just got a new car (Fiesta ST) but gave some serious thought to an EV, especially with the prices being as they are but as I needed it to be my 'only' car and as I sometimes need to use it for trips of a couple of hundred miles at a time I didn't think now was quite the time.

Really hope to get one in the future though. And look forward to reading some more of your stories and experiences. My friends look at me blankly when I get excited and spot a Zoe or Leaf or i3 on the roads..

I really really wanted the new fez st with the ecoboost engine. If I wasn't on a money saving mission I'd have had one. One of the best hot hatches on the market IMO.

Fast charge install will be happening on the 20th January.

Just need to check the wiring to my garage is up to a 30A supply. I have some bigger cable in stock just in case.

No, it isn't good. It wouldn't be good on a 4 year old car, so it is definitely worse on a 4 day old car.

That said, if the fault has already been identified and it gets fixed promptly and Renault have given you something to keep you moving in the meantime.... it's bad, but not the end of the world.
