A colleague of mine that lives fairly near me drives his Leaf on the commute, and I'm thinking in the near future I might 'join the club'.

My commute is 35 miles each way, but we also have 'free' fast chargers in work, so range isn't an issue. But it does mean, by the time you add leisure) you're looking at 20,000 miles a year. I know my colleague got a 1 year old, low mileage on lease and it's costing with battery about £210 a month. Which is a bit more than I spend on fuel, but then I'm driving a 12 year old Fabia.

Does anyone here have experience of such high mileage leases?

For that mileage I'd recommend looking at buying an older one outright, they can be had quite cheap, and by all accounts the batteries are lasting very well so don't be put off by getting something with a decent amount on the clock. C&C taxis are running a Leaf with 70k on the clock, it has been rapid charged 2-3 times a DAY and still has 12 bars of battery capacity.

I'm with Admiral on the multi-car deal, £216 as a 2nd car. BUT beware they only pay out market value for the first year so GAP insurance is worth looking into.
Admiral quoted me £450 for mine as a third car as part of a multi-car policy. That was with 13 years NCB, garaged in Bedfordshire. And to get that I had to buy a multicar policy for my other two cars which was £200 more than my existing (Admiral!) policies. Five minutes on the comparison sites got that down to £172 fully comp in the wife's name with 4yrs NCB.

We picked it up on Thursday and have done about 100 miles in it. So far we're loving it, it's so quiet and relaxing to drive and range aside it doesn't feel like a compromise at all.

The deal I just did has 8p / mile excess. So it would be £170 a month on the PCP (£1800 deposit) if I did 20k pa. This is a new Tekna. I'm sure if I had asked for 20k a year, it would have been less than this in total.

Mine has done 55,000 miles. It has led an easier life (very few fast charges), and is still showing 12 bars.
I agree, buying a low mileage 2nd hand car is probably the best option if you want to run up big miles.

Slightly cheaper than the Tekna deal that was circa £3700 over 2 years but slightly lower spec - come end of quarter they may get cheaper

Quite a lot lower spec to be honest. I'd go for the Acenta all day long which I'm sure isn't much more expensive.

Did anyone get a leaf on Bristol Streets £2k down £99 pm two year deals?

Popped in yesterday to discuss after seeing it on the website, to find they pulled it the day before.

Shame, will have to wait and see what they replace it with.

Turns out they are doing an acenta for £2k down, £119 a month.

Still seems pretty good. Anything to be aware of when purchasing a Leaf?

Do Nissan throw in a wall box? Is there a particular type to go for if not?

Just make sure they have added in the battery rental costs into that figuer - Nissan calls it 'Flex' plan.

You can get a 7.2 kWh charger installed at your house via a third party supplier like NuWorld energy. They apply to the goverment grant for you. Should cost about £200, these guys are cheaper than British Gas http://nuworldenergy.co.uk/nucharge/apply

Cheers for that. Will look into them, are they who you used?

Yeah, the price is the price, battery included.

Good to see Nissan continuing to offer the Leafs at good prices. I saw 3 on my commute home end of last week, they are getting more popular. The price you got is pretty much on par with what I'm paying, I say go for it ASAP, I noticed last week petrol prices appear to be creeping up again, so the quicker you get into a Leaf, the more you save smile

Yes I used NuWorld. They are a smallish company compared to British Gas, so communication can be slow, but their work is good.

You can get either a 16 amp or 32 amp charger, the 32 amp is more expensive. On something like the Leaf where the battery is small either is fine, but on a Tesla you really need a 32 amp charger, so I went for the 'future proof' version. There are currently also quite a few different charging connectors. The Leaf has a 'Type 1' socket, but the 'agreeded' EU socket is 'Type 2'. So the charge point I got hasn't got a lead attached/teathered. Instead you can plug any lead with any type of socket on, so in future I can use the point for any EV, regardless of socket type.

So what are your options if you have a tethered type 2 (for a zoe) but want to replace it with a leaf in the future?

I sound get another charger for £200 you can't easily change the tethered cable or swap your zoe box for a socket - we have 2 sockets and a type 2 to 1 cable for the leaf

I don't think it's all that hard to change the tethered cable to a type 1 cable. I'm pretty sure I've seen on EV forums some people reckon they can change a teathered lead in 10-15 mintues. Which I belive, after-all it's a glorifed plug, I suspect if you can wire a plug, your be able to change the cable your self.

Cheers.... Looks like you can buy the type 1 plug for about £60 so can't see it being that hard to swap over.

It isn't something to worry about for a good while though, still got 19months left on the Zoe pcp, might end up with another yet, we'll see.

Cost me £90 + vat (£108) to get my charger upgraded to the 7.2kw one. Used company called pod -point that were very good.

I did the opposite. I had a pod point with a type 1 tethered and bought a Zoe which needs a type 2. You can buy the type 2 plug with a 5m or 3m lead and just change it over like I did. You need to get the cable and not just the gun/plug though or you'll need special crimp tools. £140 for the plug and cable is what it cost me.
