I guess you are still driving it while they wait for Nissan Japan to reply?

You may want to get your request in early for a Leaf courtesy car (if and when it goes in for repair).

It's amazing how painful paying for petrol is when you've got used to "free" motoring.

Had to fill up the Lexus today....after price display thingy went above £20, I was cringing....I have no idea how I managed to think it was 'normal' to put £80 into the BMW every few weeks to get from A to B smile

Had my Leaf for 4 months now, love it. Saving me a fortune compared to my old company car.

One tip - built in carwings sat nav is pretty pants.

Use a Brodie holder with your phone, use Waze for Nav and Plugshare for finding charging points.

Don't bother too much for Eco mode, B mode is totally pointless, just press the brake pedal to get the same effect.

Going downhill? Push it into reverse which will quickly slip it into neutral meaning you can freewheel down the hill.

Obviously the slower you go, the better the range, really gets bad abov 65mph
B mode is not pointless. It is always preferable to use it instead of braking. I regularly go down a very steep hill and B mode keeps me at a good steady speed without need to use the brakes. I've seen a 2-3% increase in battery level on this one hill alone.

Not true about going slower either. Going too slowly is just as bad as going too fast. Use the gauge that shows instantaneous power usage and you'll find that something like 40-45MPH is the optimum speed.

So its been that chilly up here last two days that i've had the heated steering wheel on. Gets pretty toasty but seems to go off after a while and won't come on despite switching button on and off. Does it only come on if cabin Temp is below a threshold?

I think it is timer controlled. SO it comes on for a while and then won't come back on again until the timer reaches a certain time. The seats are the same I think. Bit odd but Nissan must have their reasons for it I suppose?

Well the wife has just left in the Leaf to make an 80 mile round trip with no options to re-charge. The display was showing 80 miles available so will she make it or not? Hopefully with careful driving it should not be a problem but it's Friday and traffic will be heavy so I guess we will found out in a few hours time when she arrives home or I get a call!

Think she may find out what range anxiety is.

I'd start with that ECO button pressed if trying to do that many miles.

I'm hoping to do a trip tomorrow with a round trip of around 94 miles (47 miles each way). I should be able to plug into a standard mains socket for a good few hours while I am there.

Do you think I'll make it? I will be driving it in B Eco mode to get the most out of it.

I think it will be very, very close. I've seen an estimate of 105 miles range on my car but that's fully charged after driving like Miss Daisy was in the back for days. You will certainly make it there. Then it will be how much zip you get back into the thing that will ensure the return journey is OK.

How many miles per hour of charge does the brick give?

Well good news, the wife has made it back from the 80 mile round trip with 11 miles still remaining although the car was having a bit of a panic with a some flashing going on on the dashboard.

So for Tyler looking to do a 94 mile round trip I think you should be ok with a top up charge from the brick for a few hours.

Have I found a bug in the leaf?

Plugged in this evening, set the cable lock to auto. The charge timer is set, so hadn't started charging yet. The cable lock did not engage.

Does it not lock until there is charge passing through the cable? A shame that someone could unplug it before it begins charging, leaving you with a problem in the morning.

I have little faith in the locking mechanism, you can put a padlock through the hole at the end of the connector trigger. It's not much more security but enough to stop some-one from coming along and trying to un-plug it for fun.

AUTO will only lock while it's charging. In your situation I'd set the switch to LOCK, then it'll remain fixed until you flick the switch again.
