Thank you for all the advice and replies. From what you have said a 60 mile round trip should be no problem.
Next question is I see Leafs for sale that you lease the battery and others where it has been bought out. If I plan to keep the car for at least 5 years and do 15,000 miles a years what would be the best option?
You get a 5 year warranty on the battery, but only 60000 miles.

There are Leafs in Cornwall on 100000 miles with around 10% battery degradation, but still fully working. So your trip would still be do-able.

You can buy a replacement battery for £5000 (fitted)

If you lease the battery, doing 15000 miles a year, you'll probably have a battery lease of something horrible like £150 a month just for the battery (they only really provide numbers for up to 12000 miles a year).

Therefore, I'd say your best bet is to buy outright and you are covered for the first four years (i.e. 60000 miles) ... if the battery goes pop in the final year then:

a) There will probably be better cars around by then anyway
b) You can get a replacement for £5000 (or most likely less as battery prices go down each year)
c) You've saved about £7200 on battery rental
