I honestly didn't think they could better the P85D...Not for a while yet anyways, but to launch this just 10 months after the P85D, that's just Ludicorus smile

By the sounds of it a P100D is almost certianly coming down the line....I cannot understand why it took Buggatti so long to develop the Veyron, when Tesla is already nearly there just 3 years into their product life smile

Err not sure you are serious ????

Relatively speaking, acceleration is easy...top speed is the really really hard bit...(power, tyres, cooling, aero and stability issues are huge once you start to creep over 200mph)
If acceleration is 'easy' why haven't we got evey performance car doing sub 3 second 0-60 times....

Wake up and get with the times, the EVs have so much more performance potential than the internal combustion engine. Apart from mag-lev, it's not by accident the worlds fastest trains are electric and now diesel.

Sustained power delivery from a battery pack is still an issue that needs to be sorted, but the rate at which EV technology is progressing it's not a matter of 'if' simply 'when'.

Ofcourse you can carry on pretending EVs are just irrelevant, but that's your choice smile

I never expected this upgrade

My p85d went into production 2 hours after this announcement.

Actually the way it worked out pleased me. I get the car I wanted, that can be upgraded to 750-800 combined motor power.

Which I will upgrade to, would be rude not to.

It also saves on bik I think, as the upgrade is a lot less as I don't need the extra range.

Also it makes my car even more desirable as I can upgrade the range in a few years once the battery packs have substantially more range.

Best of both worlds.

However the range upgrade price is a big unknown!

It's $3000 for the upgraded battery and $10,000 for ludicrous mode.

It's worth noting until a certain speed it's the same as Insane Mode due to the limit of physical traction, then it unleashes the new speed once it's moving.

For existing owners ludicrous is 3.5k ish for L speed upgrade. It does not require the 90 pack.

Battery upgrade for existing owners price is unknown at this stage

Despite making leaps and bounds in the areas he's working in, Elon Musk likes to be light hearted about things.

Should have called it Ludacris Mode.

Did you find out the costs yet? I'm having strong words with Tesla currently about the upgrade cost to my (not yet in full production) P85D. Apparently I'm not an existing customer despite having the car on order for months. We shall see, however the chances are I'll shallow the cost and end up upgrading anyway.

Are you on the tesla forums of tmc?

Threads going on there but no news on cost but I think the expectation is about 5-5,5k

In terms of eligibility this is also up in the air, a very knowledgable member has said that he thinks tesla are allowing anyone who was in build or delivery phase eligibility.

Everyone in the queue would have to re-spec and potentially re-price (upwards) + cost of upgrade and even minor delay.

However he did say tesla were clarifying this for a better solution and he expected this to change too.

Overall I'm afraid no one has firm clarification on price or eligibility.

Pretty bad seeing as it's been 10 days already

Yeah I'm on the forums, but as you say, not much detail there currently.

I did have a chat with Tesla central sales in Holland. They see my perspective and I believe they've escalated my case to California after I threatened to cancel my order completely rather than pay full price for an upgrade that has actually de-valued my own car before I've taken delivery! I'm awaiting some news on that front.

They did confirm though that it would be the full £10,800 to pay if no discount was given.
