Mine arrived yesterday!
No photos yet as it was persisting down, but it's a Brilliant Blue estate with grey leather. It's all a bit overwhelming at the moment, but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it. readit

Two things I didn't find.
1 - Where is the "Tyrefit" gubbins hidden?
2 - Has anyone found a sticker with tyre sizes and pressures on it? Normally on filler caps or door jambs? I'd be interested to know what the winter tyre size is.

Cheers!

Found my Tyrefit stuff right at the bottom of the cubby box on the left hand side of the boot. I'd glanced in there and not realised it had a false bottom.

Found tyre pressure sticker on filler cap. Didn't recognise it first time as the pressures were in KPA which didn't mean anything to me.

Still no sign of winter tyre information though...

I have another question if anyone can help. Is it possible to set a satnav route but without spoken instructions? On my last car I could mute the instructions and simply have the pictures. On this if I turn the volume of the instructions down it still pauses the radio whilst it makes silent announcements! heherolleyes

Oh yes, one last thing. Sport+ is very fast isn't it? biggrin

Hey Rob, definitely no offence intended it's super useful to know what to do if this happens and I'm glad you posted it as others will be too.

Regarding satnav yes if you press mute at the moment the voice is talking it'll mute the nav.

Speed wise I'm used to bikes and my 911 so wasn't really thinking it was all that quick until they loaned me a boxster in April during the GT2 service and when I got back in the merc I realised it was a bit quicker. People seem to think boxsters are fast-ish so I guess it's quite quick really for a saloon car, obviously not particularly lithe in the corners though.

A great all round car that's for sure.

Thanks. Is there a mute button? I've just being winding the volume down.

No. Certainly a hefty booty.

Push the volume roller to mute. The amount of tech in them is a bit bonkers but you soon get used to it and it is generally logical.

Well, I'm slowly getting to grips with it. I'm enjoying my 99.9mpg silent commute that's for sure. Had a decent run on Saturday with a mix of M-way, A road and country lanes and averaged 50.4mpg. I've got the Mercedes Me working on my phone. I've never really had the need to check my tyre pressures remotely before, but now I can, I do! heheredface I like the instant drop down rear seats. I've found Rob's emergency charge cable release wire (just in case). It's a shame there isn't another cubby hole in the offside of the boot as well as the near side.

For the time being I've left my 3-pin charger plugged in the garage, fed the curly wire through a hole in the wall and hung it on a hook on the outside when it's not in use. Seems to be the best solution for me rather than packing the whole lot away every morning and taking it with me. One thing - my green charge light illuminates constantly rather than flashing as it should do. It still charges to 100%, but never flashes. What do other people's do?

Mpg on my C350e saloon is steadily creeping up.

4649miles in 3 months
44.1mpg
2072miles with the engine off - 45%!

and it will only go up if/when i start charging at home.

The estate we run at work is on 8400miles and has averaged 49mpg.

Coming from a 335d doing 35mpg and a Landcruiser doing 28mpg the figures are very impressive.

I've done about 300 miles of my normal driving.
In that time averaged 55.4mpg, which is better than my 320ED which averaged about 48 over the same usage.

I think the 350e is perfect for my usage. It certainly wouldn't suit everyone. If you were a big motorway user for instance, I think you would be better with a diesel. But for a lot of urban use (me!) it's great.

Couple of things I think they could have done better.

Recharge flap - this would be better if it opened from a solenoid. I think after a few years of me pushing it open and closed everyday there will be a bald patch on it!

Battery driving mode button (or whatever it's called) would be better on the right hand side of the console, rather than tucked away on the left.

I find it's hard to modulate the braking smoothly. Depending what mode it's in I either stand it on it's nose, or think I'm not going to stop. redface

The "HOLD" function is excellent. Is this a Merc thing, or is it on all modern autos?

I do a lot of motorway miles, so the mpg is only averaging 40.3, I get 11p a mile, so every mile costs me around 1p or around £25 / month. My BIK saving is around £150, so overall I'm much better off whilst driving a better car. Win, win.

Added benefit was beating a Cayman in an extremely childish traffic light gp last week. (Yes he was trying)

I'm the same, thats why I cancelled mine and jumped ship to the upcoming v60 d5 plug in hybrid, where the 5 pot oil burner should give 50+mpg on the motorway.

I had one for a week

1. Plugging it in is a hassle and a faff that i didnt bother with. If you do you get 7 miles from the battery - hardly worth the bother of plugging in, saves pennies.

2. Only worth it if youre getting it as a company car - if so i cant think of a better company car.

Sat nav takes ages to load when you get in so you end up sat in car going nowhere for 2 mins if you dont know where youre going.

Door so light it doesnt shut easily.

A bit tedious to drive as engine always switches off and on so a bit jerky but i think the engine sounds ok so disagree with online reviews saying engine gruff

Faff carrying electric cables in boot

The onboard media system is poor to navigate. Eg if you press tye call button on steering wheel it does nothing unless you switch car into telephone mode rather than just automatically bringing up called list. Same with changing radio channels - bit faffy.

No room for your left leg/knee. No where to rest your right arm - the 'ledge' is an awkward shape due to the 'door lock pin'.

Performance is brisk - to get a non hybrid company car with this performance would involve a high tax band. Nice and quick.

Flappy paddles useless - million times worse than dsg. Dont work.

Grips well, doesnt handle bit who cares

Cant tell it had air suspension. Seemed just like any other car.

Stupid ipad thing stuck on dash - who thought that was good?!

Overall, nice car, looks like an s class, nice switch gear quality, quiet, brisk performance, 35mpg if dont plug in, cheap tax, better alloys would be nice.

Get one if youre a company car driver (and have a small left knee!)

Interesting post, thanks. I wonder if living with one you would get used to some of the things you didn't like?

My brick charger with the 3-in plug is fixed to my internal garage wall. The cable comes through the wall and sits on a hook outside. I reverse up to the garage and plug it in. Takes less than a minute. More than half my mileage has been completed on electric, so I reckon it's worth it. If you only got 7 miles out of it you must have been using full KERS all the time! My other charging cable is in the cubby hole at the side of the boot so my boot floor is empty.

You're probably right. This, or a BMW 330e. New Volvo if you do big miles.

jonah35 said:

I reckon it's the same speed as my old BMW hard drive system.

jonah35 said:

Don't understand this one.

I agree the engine does sound OK. I think the engine on/off is pretty seamless, but the gearbox is a bit of a clunker. Not as good as the 8-speed BMW unit.

jonah35 said:

I think you might be pressing the wrong button. There is a call answer and a call hang up button. Between them there is the voice command button. If you press this and say "Call Jonah35" it will ring Jonah35 irrespective of what mode you are in. I do think the BMW system of eight preset favourites was a better way of doing it though. You could use them for anything - radio, media, satnav, phone numbers.

OK for me, but I'm a short arse. I can imagine the door pin is not a comfortable place to have your arm!

Agreed.

jonah35 said:

Work OK for me. I pull them and it changes gear. But I have no experience of the DSG.

jonah35 said:

Yes, it's a numb old lump. But no one would buy one for racing around in. (I don't think).

jonah35 said:

It does ride the bumps very well. Whether a steel sprung car with the same weight and tyre size could be equal, I don't know. You can raise it 25mm too for that Citroen effect. biggrin

jonah35 said:

Not me! Amazing how quickly you get used to it. No more offensive in my eyes than the BMW 3 series screen, and the rest of the interior is much nicer.

Yes, fair. 17" and 18" alloys are available. I'm sure you could spec some AMG wheels as a dealer fit or aftermarket option if you really wanted.

Following on from my post above, I appreciate that my usage is not the same as everyone else. In fact mine is probably unusual because it's nearly all urban low speed stuff, so a plug-in hybrid suits me far more than many company car drivers who may still be better off with a diesel, especially from an mpg point of view. Here are two shots from my car this morning:

First one is since I last filled up with petrol (442 miles ago, third of a tank left).

Second one is my trip in this morning. 10 miles, engine off for 8, 7 miles off electric remaining.

I also appear to have some crumbs on the steering wheel column. redface

So a quick update.

I have done a fair few mile this week (around 900 in fact) and have had something of a revelation.

On Tuesday I drove to Wales for a meeting setting off with 100% Charge. When I got to my destination I had averaged 40.9 MPG, which is in fact my average over the 6000 miles or so I have done in the car. The following day I drove home, starting with no charge and still averaged the same.

Yesterday I was going to do a similar amount of miles, but crucially before I set out I forgot to change to Eco mode. 200 miles later my average for the journey was 45.5 MPG. Did the same today and got 43MPG (Had the A/C on all day today though)

So as a result I would recommend running in comfort and not ECO.

Give it a go, I'd be interested to know the results.

I have a suspicion ECO mode isn't as economical as comfort. On the M-way ECO seems to charge the battery in anticipation of town driving which uses quite a bit of fuel. ECO also seems to retain a higher % charge at the end of a given journey. If you know you are arriving with charging facilities the best thing to do seems to be over ride and finish on E-mode so you take the battery right down to 9% at the end of journey. ECO seems to often leave it at 18%. This hasn't been done in any scientific manner but just a feeling having played with the modes over the last 5,000 miles.

I've got a 300 mile round trip tomorrow. I'll run Comfort there and Eco coming back and let you know the result.
