Okay, so ran the car down in Comfort mode, covering approx. 110 miles. MPG return was 54mpg, but that was with a full electric charge.

The return journey in Eco mode, no elec, saw 46mpg.

Not exactly a like for like comparison, but I'm now convinced the car is more economical in Comfort mode. Pretty sure it is down to how the car handles the electricity aspect of it.

Eco mode seems determined to use as much electric as possible, so I tend to run out of it very quickly. Comfort is a lot more sensible with its usage and only really uses it at low speed or pulling away.

I don't like the fact that Eco drops straight into electric mode when I'm holding a steady 70 mph on the motorway; I'd have thought this is the best time to us the petrol engine, as it is at it's most economical....

I've been managing around 43mpg on a couple of decent journeys (300+ miles) it's either the car loosening up a bit or the fact that comfort mode better suits my driving style.
Overall I'm now pretty happy. If only it had a third bigger fuel tank and a sat nav that didn't take a fortnight to work out a route.

Right, bit more of a comparison this morning.

My usual morning commute is 20 miles; made up of 15 miles of motorway and 5 miles of town roads. The motorway is usually fairly free flowing, so I tend to sit at 70mph. Leaving the house with a full charge and in Eco, I see at return of between 70 and 99 mpg, depending on if I remember to set it to EV mode when I hit the West Brom junction (about 10 miles from work).

I took the Mrs to work this morning, so my run in was 35 miles in total with a similar ration of motorway/town roads.

Running in Comfort mode with full charge saw a return of 88.2 mpg, although the motorway limited maximum speed to 60mph.

Still nearly double my usual commute though, with a similar mpg return....

Anybody had any experience towing a caravan with one of these?
Also what this typical range on a full tank?

Towing - if you are ordering from new, make sure you specify the factory fit towbar.
There's some debate if you can fit one aftermarket. My dealer categorically said no, but this chap has managed it (albeit on a normal engined car).

If it's factory fitted they use 18" wheels which pushes the car up 1 band so BIK is 11% this year.......

Yes, that's what I'm on. But I wanted an estate with Premimum Plus, so there you go.

Is the saloon the same?

On the estate this is true.

I don't believe the saloon needs the 18" wheels for some reason but you would need to confirm with MB. My 17" wheeled saloon shows the towing capacities on the V5 and other documentation which is missing from the 17" wheeled estates we have.

After market fitters are reluctant to fit to a 17" wheeled estate.

How are others finding oil consumption? Our 3 cars are using about 1 ltr every 10,000.

I did a 110mile trip into London at the weekend. Was very impressed with the 61mpg it averaged. It was showing 62mpg all the way to Heathrow and then only dropped to 61mpg even though the last few miles took nearly 1hr. In a diesel the economy would have plummeted with the London traffic.

I've been a bit quiet lately but regarding eco/comfort mode I agree.

My commute is very regimented at 25 miles and I have perfected a plan whereby I leave the house on 100%, range normally 13-16 predicted, 13 more often. E-MODE selected.

After three or four miles I'm at 70mph CC on the dual carriageway and I switch to E-SAVE, engine comes on and off for around 6 miles when I'm on urban D/C heading into London, at this point showing 11 miles of range and around 14 to go I'll switch back to E-MODE.

Now when I reach total journey so far of about 14 miles the MPG is at 99.9 and my engine won't start again for the rest of the trip.

Target is to reach the electric point at 10% charge but sometimes it's a bit more.

Return trip pretty much the same in reverse. Commute costs around a couple of quid a day in petrol plus electric I use at home (i.e 50% of total used as Source London give me around 5.5KWh per day for free)

It's basically reduced my commuting bills to a cup of coffee a day smile

The top tip here is to switch to e-mode when you want to, otherwise it's almost impossible to keep the engine off and use that last 20% down to 10%

All these clever satnav algorithms in eco can't even come close to manual thinking.

I also think my intermediate oil change to shell helix ultra has made a big difference to consumption of petrol, it really seems to help engine economy in my experience of a few cars, but that might be complete fantasy.

10k miles just clicked on.

Thanks for the update.

Completely agree regarding manual use of E mode; I set mine at the mid-point of my commute and usually cruise into a parking space with around 1 mile of battery left.

I'm at 5500 miles now and average economy over that is 58 mpg. I can't really grumble at that, especially as I tend to drop into sports mode a couple of times a week hehe

I ordered a Brilliant Blue Premium + estate with beige interior & adaptive headlight thingies this week. Anyone know how long the waiting list is at the moment? smile

Sounds good. Similar to mine, but mine's got the silver grey leather. No idea about waiting times I'm afraid, but I wouldn't hold your breath!

My boss ordered one in September. He has been quoted a delivery of end of December. So I guess three months. Another colleague has ordered a BMW 330e he placed the order at the same time and so far they haven't given him a lead time.

On another note: mine is coming up for its first service. I'm going to reset the MPG after that to see if I can better the 41.5 mpg I've averaged so far. Still considering I really don't drive it in with a mind for economy it's actually not bad.

Still love it.

That sounds almost too perfect to be true, considering when the current car is due back! smile

I probably wouldn't have gone for the 330e anyway, as I wanted an estate, but when I asked out leasing company why I couldn't get a quote for one, they said "your employer won't let us quote for vehicles with more than a 6 month wait, and that's currently showing at 13 months!"

I think I managed about 32mpg on our test drive weekend, but that was hoofing it around as much as possible, and I covered 360 miles without being able to recharge it whilst we were away!

I'm very much looking forward to the majority of weeks where I expect to use no petrol at all. smile

Seriously considering a C350e estate as my next company car. Just trying to work out the BIK saving vs additional fuel over a diesel A4. Usual commute c13 miles each way and no charging facility at work but would charge overnight at home. Some long journeys for work but generally only a 300 mile Round trip regularly. If I can get an overall average of c40mpg I believe it stacks up.

New C350e estate driver here, basic car in black/black with the Driving Assistance package being the only option which I need for work. Don't feel particularly short changed though, the car is well specified even in basic Sport trim.

The best bit was 10 days from putting the request to our fleet man to collecting the car from the dealer - he found me a stock car ready to register and drive away thumbup Missing the keyless entry of my previous car, but strangely enjoying having somewhere proper to put the key whilst driving again.

Did I read correctly that the car can park itself, using the phone app, with nobody in it?

If so, has anyone tried it? Seems like it would be handy in many a multistorey carpark!

I think that's "Parking Pilot" on the new E-Class.

I thought I'd seen something about it being available so long as you've got the 360 degree camera option. Oh well, I guess I'll find out when it turns up! smile
