Got to say the dealer has been even worse than I anticipated.

Called at 3:30pm to ask when it would be ready and they hadn't even started to look at it. When I arrived the advisor was actually quite rude and dismissive.
The seat and mirrors were all set up for me indicating that it hadn't even been test driven (I wish I'd recorded the mileage atdrop off)
The advisor said that the service message couldn't be reset as it was done on time and not miles. Bullst! They left it late and didn't have the time.
They had the car from 8:00-17:30 and managed to wash it.

Well done mb.....

The dealers either seem to be dreadful or excellent.
Try another one next time and hopefully you might get better service.

Had mine serviced today as well.

Since when did engine oil cost £120!

And thanks to BIK, £40 per month cheaper than it would've been to replace my current S-Max with a similarly specced one.

If, like me, you've got three kids and you also need a tow bar for lugging mountain bikes around, there is simply no competition to the C350e estate for a company car user.
Most of the guys I work with who needed a tow bar gave the C350e Estate a miss because it puts it up a level on BiK, same applies if you wanted the Burmester stereo. May have changed now, but most of my colleagues who need practicality went for the Outlander.
Sorry, I'd assumed "and you want a car that you'll actually enjoy driving" was a given...

It's not the stereo that puts it up a level, btw, it's the panoramic glass roof, which adds enough extra weight you need the 18" wheels, and those are what actually ups the CO2.
But you can't have the stereo without the roof, so in my case I would want the stereo, so couldn't have the estate.

I haven't yet bothered getting a demo car from our fleet department because of that.

Lots of people I work with have, I am told that the C350e is a bit of a barge, great on the Motorway with the air suspension, but not so good on twisty roads.

Most are opting for the 330e. So I guess if you are going to choose a barge, you may as well get one that doesn't have boot space reduced by batteries and is cheaper on BiK, unless of course you simply must have the badge.
I've got the tow bar fitted, was worth paying a bit more tax. Still tons less than my Audi diesel. It's not a barge on the twisty roads, just depends how you drive it. But you have the option of S & S+ modes which lower and stiffen the dampers. Makes it sharper to drive and pretty quick too.

Quick question...

Does the C350e have a separate starter battery or does it all work off the main battery?

Just asking as I'm wondering, if I get to a weekend festival with the battery pretty much fully charged and then leave a camping fridge plugged into the cigarette lighter socket, if I'll be able to drive away as the end or if I'll have flattened a starter battery?

It has a conventional 12v battery for the bulk of the car systems that you get normally. Pretty sure the starter motor is 12v, but even if it runs off the HV battery, if your 12v was flat the car wouldn't work anyway. Might pay you to use a dedicated leisure battery for the fridge?

Is anyone aware of any reasons for delivery delays on the C350e?

I ordered mine on October 28th, and the latest I've had is a further delay in estimated delivery time pushing it out to July 7th!!!

That's odd. I thought deliveries were sorted. My boss ordered his around the same time as you and his car was delivered on the day the 17 plates came out (he waited a week or two to get the new reg for some reason)

I'm not sure if selecting certain options slows the delivery down.

That seems a long time, but I have no current experience.

Order to delivery was only 6 weeks for me in Feb/Mar last year. BMW still haven't followed up on my enquiry for 3x 330e...

Possibly. I wonder if the panoramic roof would do this?

It might be the colour. I remember reading the blue and red paints had to be done in Germany as the South African factory could get them right? It may have even been on this thread come to think of it.

Reading other thread there have been delays with black ash trim and some of the driver aid packages.

Hmm... Mine is definitely in Bremen according to the leasing company, and is in Brilliant Blue (or will be, eventually!)

15month 22,000mile update on my C350e Premium Plus Saloon.

Economy: 49.71mpg average (measured vs 35mpg for my previous 335D)

Full charge electric range: Shows 12miles on dash after charging to 100%. My 22mile commute typically gives 16-17miles engine off.

Full tank range (with charging): Up to 700miles (my record) but typically 450-500miles

Interesting stat: 22,000miles on the car but over 50% have been with the engine off!

Faults: None (We run 2 others and between the 3 they have covered 70-80k without fault)

Good bits: Lovely place to waft along and surprisingly quick. Fantastic ride on the air suspension. Good economy for my usage. Nice interior and kit with premium plus. Running costs seem low (servicing hasn't been too expensive and tyre wear is good - should see 25k, maybe 30k out of a set). Gearbox is good in the auto modes, sport modes seem better than the zf-8sp i have experienced in the newer BMWs eg not holding on to gears too long - it just seems to anticipate what you need better. Loving cabin pre-heat/cool. Silence of electric mode never fails to make you feel smug.

Bad bits: Seats not as supportive or comfortable as BMW m-sport seats, boot space isn't great (but shape is good so hasn't actually caused any issue), not that big inside/rear seats given size of car, poor/no manual control of gearbox (the paddles are useless, too slow to react and whatever mode you are in it will default back to D after a while)

That's a pretty fair appraisal.

I have no problem with the speed of reaction. I pull the lever and it changes gear straight away. But I agree about the defaulting back to D. What's that all about?! Very strange. I don't know if all Mercs do that, or if it's unique to the hybrid drivertrain.

The new E350e has the nine speed box in it. I don't know if that behaves differently.

I actually quite like the way it reverts. Goes to show you can't please everyone I guess wink

I agree it can be a bit sluggish on the paddles but I find it OK for what it is.

A mate very kindly let me have a drive of his F type V8S the other day and that has the same revert to auto thing, although that shifts the instant you hit the paddle and the rev matching is perfect. Utterly seamless power delivery. Can't accuse the MB of that, sad to say, particularly in Sport modes I find it can be brutal and personally don't understand why they made it that way.

I have a C250 at the moment and have covered 67,000 miles (although I have a new 5 series sat on my drive for a four day test drive at the moment).

I too find the paddles too slow to react and all too often I find they shift down as I'm also dropping down meaning the car jerks too much - usually dropping from 3rd to 1st as I'm approaching a roundabout.

As mine isn't a hybrid so you can programme the individual driving mode to hold onto the gears and drive as a true manual which allows me to enjoy a more spirited drive when I can be bothered.

It looks like the Night Pack is causing issues. Did you order that?

God no, it sounded absolutely hideous! hehe

Why on earth anyone would want to swap body-coloured wing mirrors for black ones is beyond me, and given the choice, I'd immediately ban tinted rear windows. I've got the bloody things in my current car, and I've been regretting them ever since I first drove the thing in anything other than perfect daylight four years ago...
