Can anyone confirm the power levels (or current) of each of the charging speeds in the 330e please?

I need to get an electrician to check over the mains outlet I plan to charge from and want to have as much detail to hand as possible.
I've just had a standard 13 Amp IP66 socket installed to charge mine and my sparky ran a dedicated 2.5mm cable to an RCD in my distribution box. If I want a 'Mennekes 62196-2' standard charging point installed the cable needs to be rated for 16 Amps continuous so probably best to go for 32A Rated cable if using a long run..

Thank you. I'm probably just going to be using an existing socket in our garage though; I've checked that I can boil a kettle from that socket, but I should do something a little more rigorous... smile

I've seen elsewhere a mention that the 'low' charge rate setting may result in a draw of about 6Amps, and was wondering if anyone could corroborate that (or if it's specified in the manual - once I get my VIN I can download the manual, but my car hasn't been manufactured yet).

I've been charging mine for the last 5 months on a 10 metre extension lead connected to a normal 13a existing socket in my garage, never had a problem of any kind.

Thank you for that; good info. Do you select a particular charging speed, or just take whatever it does by default?

Actually, searching again I find what I thought I'd seen elsewhere is actually in this thread (so I guess you're charging on Low?):

The car only charges at 10A if you have the charging rate set to high from the default of low in the iDrive. Low is about 6.6A. This is from the supplied 13A plug cable.

Yes I charge on low, I tried high but it didn't appear to improve the charge time much at all. I'm always at home overnight so wouldn't be any real value in it charging much quicker anyway.

Well I've just got approval to order my 330e M sport. Trouble im having is choosing a colour as I'd set my heart on Tanzanite blue but my company will only allow standard metallic paint.

My last 7 cars have alternated black or white and I see the car comes in little choice of colour.

so I've narrowed it down to two choices and can't decide !

White with black Dakota blue stitching and blue finisher.

Or

Mineral Grey with Oyster Dakota with black finsher.

Any thoughts or suggestions from those who have one ?

Pete.

This is probably less of a 330e issue and more of a general 3 series comment but has anyone noticed that the power of the rear heated screen is absolutely pants?

Hi everyone, new to the forum, found it after searching about the 330e, really useful info here!

I have just ordered my 330e M Sport with following options:

- E.Blue paint
- Hex with blue trim and black leather with blue stitching
- M Sport+ pack (442 alloys)
- Comfort Pack
- Pro Media Pack
- Reversing camera
- Active cruise control

I can't wait :-D and its a long wait :-(

Ordered as my next company car which is due to change next May, dealer told me to expect delivery around April if I order now so thought I better get it in. Leasing company (Lex) has provided estimated delivery date early Jan...oops. I'm expecting that will go back.

I was hoping someone can assist with questions about the car and especifically with Lex Autolease:

1. My commute is 11 miles each way, with charging point at work, so hybrid is perfect. However I do have a journey of around 270 miles each way about once a month. I assume I can comfortably do each way on a single full tank? It is almost all motorway the whole journey.

2. Lex stated that all Connected Apps will be disabled - some rubbish about their quality of service that you have to go through them to book services and they cannot block just that part. This does not appear to be just Lex (or just BMW cars) stating this so wondering if people that actually have a 330e from Lex can confirm this is true?

3. To be honest, in relation to 2, I'm mostly interested in being able to play spotify and remotely heat/cool the car before I set off (which I think can be done by the key?). Does this work anytime or only when plugged in?

Thanks

Mine came from Lex and to answer each in turn -

Yes you should be able to do 270 miles on a tank without any problems - I went from Bradford to Heathrow starting with a full charge and full tank and made it back to Mansfield with still 50 miles left, although it was dropping fast!

My apps seem to all be enabled, although I am not an expert with some of the entertainment options - I think I heard a similar rumour before mine arrived so I rand the supplying dealer (Park Lane BMW) and they advised that the car would come to me as it come out of the factory;

the pre-conditioning works when the car is either plugged in or not - although it does seem to use about 10% of the battery so it is best used plugged in. I have mine set each day for 6.30am - I guess it decides what time to start pre-conditioning based on the actual temperature so in the colder months it may start the warming up process earlier and hence use more juice.

On the delivery date - mine change of car date was 7th August, and like you I was expecting a significant wait beyond that, however late in July I called Park Lane to ask if I could make a couple of tweaks to my order, only to find out that the car was already built and sat in Southampton - actual delivery date was 2nd August, so finders crossed!

Thanks, that is helpful and hopefully that will be true for me too. I know which dealership is delivering the car so will have a chat with them, or even pop in as they are quite local.

I assume with the pre conditioning you can set the temp? Can you also configure if the heated seats/steering wheel should turn on or not?

I doubt my work will allow me to have the are as early as Jan (if it turns up then) but I am hoping I can get away with waiting to May, use my current car as a pool car for a few months or similar

Thanks

Hi Pete, I was considering the Oyster but decided against it due to comments about the maintenance required. I have had similar colours and while the upkeep was more it was manageable. However my boss has it in his 4 series and regrets it, likewise several sales guys at the dealership were hesitant to recommend it. I decided to go with black with blue stitching to connect with the exterior colour (I chose E. blue).

M. Grey was my second choice and I think it looks really good, I liked the idea of saddle seats interior but few other people seemed to like it....including my wife :-(

As your last cars have switched between white and black I'd say the M. Grey. Just pop to your local dealership, they are bound to have both colours on some of the used cars if not in the showroom.

Having had Estoril on my f31, it's a superb colour. Seemed fairly easy to keep as well. My wife has a black 2 series, not a fan of white or the red, so I ended up with Mineral grey (and grey wheels) with black, with gloss black trim inside. I have a suspicion it's going to be gloomy but I prefer ivory white to the oyster and you can't get that in the 330e. I had ivory white in an e46 and it does take some more cleaning. Maybe I should have taken a punt with it, but I've never had it that light since I had kids! Red and the brown were both overruled by the missus.

In the end, I've ended up with it by default but quite looking forward to it as it's quite a stealthy colour. My current car isn't a colour I'd have chosen (limestone on a Golf GTD) but has really grown on me so hoping for similar this time round.

Daft question, but how have you been keeping the extension lead dry where you plug it in to the BMW lead?

My car is arriving sooner than I thought and I still do not have a charge point outside...

As to colours, I went for Metallic Grey with red leather. Saw one in the showroom, and it looked stunning with that combo. Pictures online look a bit garish, but in the flesh its fantastic.

My own car is now apparently 'at sea'. How long did it take for people to receive their car from being 'at sea'? The reason I ask is that I am out of the country next week!

Great news, I was a little concerned I may have to stop and fill up during each journey. in my case I doubt the batteries will help much, I will start with a full charge but as the journey is then all motorway I'll be depending on the ice. I will also have to use the ice to recharge the batteries as my office there and the hotels I stay in do not have charging points (am trying to work on that).

The hybrid still makes sense for me as the local trips are all for my pocket but the long journey has the mileage covered by work anyway.

I really do like the MG, just hope I don't regret EB, I don't think I will. I really like the black grills with MG too although cannot decide if they go as well with EB. I was all for changing them but have started to think the chrome surround fits with the lights better....decisions..

It will depend if you are using Android or an iPhone but Spotify doesnt work through the BWM Conneted Android App. Apparently the 7 Series is the only one were spotify works on the Android. I think I read it works for iPhones though.

Android auto would be been fantastic, I looks like they are introducing Apple CarPlay soon on new models. Wonder if they would be updating software over the air to enable it on current models.
