May I ask a quick question?

Does the engine run all the time when in Sport/Sport+ mode?
Hi Soov535,
from memory I think you can be in any of the 4 modes and run on battry but you're not going to get the same performance as from the engine.
As soon as you accelerate quickly the engine will cut in.
I will check this on my drive home this evening.

Thanks buddy. My question is whether if one selects "Sport" or "Sport+", does the car use the petrol engine all the time (i.e. you get maximum performance all the time).

You're welcome. As I said, I will check this evening on my drive home.
I have tried a standing start (not using Launch Control) In Sport and Sport+ and the car definitely takes off in electric mode but the petrol quickly kicks in. I also recall being in sport while coasting downhill where the engine turned off. I think it depends on how you're driving the car. If you want performance then it will always switch to petrol.

All these people claiming 60,75,100mpg!

I've done 1300 and averaging 40.3 lol
The people claiming that mpg (me included), have a daily commute of between 20-30 miles max. I can get 140 mpg with a full charge on my 20 mile commute. I plug in at work and get 140 on the way back too. If your commute is more than that and/or you don't charge prior to starting a journey you are never going to see this mpg. Other guys from my office that have 330e's and live a little further away see their mpg drop around 30-40 mpg for every 10 miles over 20 and by the time you hit 50-60 mile commute your driving a 45mpg car. If I don't plug in and drive 60 miles for example, I get around 45mpg.

Don't worry, they're all pretty much ignoring the cost of the electricity they're putting in. Do 2 miles on all electric and your mpg is infinite. The cost however is something like 4p-5p a mile. Still good, but a long way from free unless they can charge for free, which is becoming increasingly difficult.
I do roughly 25% of my running on electric going by the app info. I am very lucky that the public charger beside my work is virtually never used and free to charge. I used it early monday morning this week and no one else used the type 2 until I was back late on tuesday. There is a Golf that has used it a couple of times in the last month but that is about it. A few Outlanders use the type 1 reasonably regular. Sadly I know this will come to an end, probably soon crybiggrin

I have not paid for any electricity and I am averaging 56mpg overall, pretty good for the amount of running in such a motor I reckon. A good deal for my employer who provides car and private fuel and a no brainer for me as I said before. 3.5k miles in yet still enjoying the car more as the miles go on.

Not sure about sport+ but it dosen't in sport. If you want the engine on all the time, knock the gear stick to the left.

Tbh driving Eco everywhere feels like an incredible waste for the performance and smoothness of power the car has.

I pretty much have the car in comfort all the time other than when I'm bored I'll put it in sport, or ecopro on a long motorway stretch.

To me the beauty of the car is that it can glide around town and have plenty of power on tap so I drive it as I would any other car. Yes I could drive very conservatively and see 100mpg etc.. But then I never did that in any diesels and if I wanted better fuel economy i just would have changed my driving style in a different car.

With 250hp and 99octane petrol at 1.08 per litre it's still cheap motoring at 40-50mpg and a lot of fun with the different modes.. Plus the electric motor really does help push the car, I'd be interested to see a 330i vs 330e

BIK is dirt cheap too so I almost feel tight driving a 36k car like a grandad. The car just deserves more lol

Oh also, sport mode predominantly uses petrol/hybrid.

It seems to charge the car slightly while driving, but when accelerating quickly it uses petrol and battery together

Had a play on the drive home yesterday and you can switch to Sport or Sport + while in Max eDrive and remain driving on battery but you obviously don't get the full performance of the car. Sport & Sport+, while driving on petrol, seems to improve throttle response and lets the engine rev to the red line before changing gear. Great Fun !!!

Looks like I will be joining the club - my delivery date has been pulled froward from March to late October.

Have got the following coming:
Mineral grey with black leather, 441 wheels in Ferric, pro nav, HK, comfort pack and a few other bits.

Not having driven one, I'm now contemplating if I even should before it comes!

I went with the Ferric Grey wheels - I think they look great on my Estoril Blue M Sport. I had hoped to drive one before mine came, but in hindsight I am glad I didn't as I would have been disappointed getting back in my 520d SE!! Similar spec but wish I had gone for the HK system!

Apologies for the upside down picture - not quite sure how to get it the right way up!

I'm interested in how other people are utilising the regenerative power of their 330e's. Whilst travelling downhill I often try to find the sweet spot by slightly using the brake without slowing too much.
I've been driving mine in the French Pyrenees for the past week or so. I drove over the Col du Tourmalet today and the trip downhill charged my battery from 6% to 65%, enough for an extra 9 miles - plus it didn't use any fuel for the 10 miles we were travelling downhill.

That looks great, I'm not 100% sold on Mineral grey to be honest. I had an Estoril F31 when they first came out and loved it but didn't want another (just for a change). Didn't want white or black, as my wife has a black 2 series, so it was this or silver! Ferric adds a nice touch, they do look great against the blue so will see on mineral grey, it's going to look good or really dull!

HK was something I was never fussed about but having borrowed a 4 series for a couple of days which had it, I was blown away by it. Way better than the BOSE my Audi had before so really wanted to get it if I could.

Well I finally have my car list 😛
BMW 330e is on the list in m sport but requires £300 per year out of my own pocket to upgrade.
Mercedes phev is on the list but £1000per year to upgrade.
No volvo phev?!

Other tempting diesels, a6 black edition with no upgrade payment
C class amg estate with little upgrade payment.

Now I have requested test drives on the bmw, audi and merc.

Still not convinced on the range of the bmw but with the the bik savings I'm sure I can suffer a few more filling stops.

My colleagues are telling me the list is changing constantly so hoping the volvo will appear soon as that is the car for me.

How's everyone getting on with the 330e?

For me £300 per year would be the classic "no brainer" - I pay £97 per month (before tax) towards mine and can say that I absolutely love it - only 11 days in and 400 miles done but so far I can't fault it. Get one ordered!!

Personally I'd wait until at least the second tank of fuel before giving anything an unambiguous thumbs up smile

I completely agree now I've been looking at the numbers against normal diesels. £2-2500 saving per year is a family holiday.
I would have liked an estate as I have a dog but seat cover will sort that and I don't know why I'm getting caught up in the filling up more scenario, not like there's only a handful of petrol stations. Boot is small for UK holidays with family but I'll buy a roof box for that.
Still going to test drive one so I can see how good it is,charging points at £150 from a company in Chesterfield which is very close to me.

I'm due a new company car in March and have been offered this or a fairly well specd 320d.

I do between 2-3000 miles a month, mainly motorway. Of that, 300ish personal miles.

I have a fuel card so all 'personal' mileage is logged and a cheque for the amount paid based on mpg/pence per mile for that month.

40% tax payer

I'll have the car for 6 years.

Having the 'e' would nean a huge saving per month on the 320d but from what I read, a fairly big increase in fuel cost as my journeys are all 300mile return trips with little opportunity for charging at my destination.

Should I go for the 330e or the 320d based on how my pocket will be affected?
I'm in same boat as you with the the high mileage but the low bik rate makes it a no Brainer.
I have to claim my fuel back and sometimes I might be out of pocket but I'm prepared to swallow that as it will only be a few quid depending on traffic or if I'm late.
Now I need to clarify if work will pay for my electric at home as that is around £10 a week.

I'd ask about getting the volvo on your list, ticks all the for you it seems with proper real world MPG and range.

£150 is a decent price I think. Where is that from please?

My 330e is coming early September - I was going to charge (occasionally) from a standard wall socket but at that price I would consider putting a charger in.
