Mine has not yet arrived, so I'm still in the dirty world of Diesel.

Looking through this and other forums it does appear that using the pre conditioner takes charge out of the battery quicker than it can be charged from the wall socket. Anybody got any views? Presumably it would be better with a type 2 charger, but would it be better to have the 3 pin charging options set to high rather than low while using the pre conditioner and try and claw back as much range as you can?

Correct. However, in theory setting a departure time fixes this. IE the car warms up early so there's time left over to re-charge whilst still just maintaining temperature. In practice this works 90% of the time, but now it's colder I find myself setting the departure time around 5/10 minutes earlier than normal just to give it a bit of a charging buffer.

If you had a 16A charger instead it would alleviate it slightly, so if you're in the fortunate position of being able to have one installed I would 100% go for it. Well actually might aswell get a 32A charger for future proofness (330e will only charge at 16a still, faster than 10a wall socket though).

It'll give you as standard things like realtime traffic information.
Do NOT miss out on this. It updates traffic in real time and avoids congenstion by suggesting alternative routes in real time as you drive (i.e. it tells the future because it knows there is an accident ten miles up the road and routes you around it before you get to it)

Has save me hundreds of hours in the last three years.

Serious? The business media pack doesn't have this? I ordered my car in june/july so it's probably too late to change 😣

It's not that great; the Marlow bridge has been shut for 3 weeks and will be shut for 6 months. Google knows it but BMW RTTI has no idea... it keeps trying to reroute me over it.

I think it comes with the Professional Media which is £900. I think you might be able to buy it for extra on the Business one. I'd check with the dealer.

Pro:
Navigation system, BMW Professional Multimedia, including enhanced Bluetooth telephone functionality with USB interface, instrument panel with extended functionality, BMW Professional radio with DVD drive, iDrive Controller, functional bookmarks, integrated hard disc with 12GB of memory for maps and audio data, Real Time Traffic Information (RTTI) in conjunction with BMW Assist, built-in 8.8" colour display showing 3D maps and bird’s eye view.

Business:
Navigation system, BMW Business Advanced, including enhanced Bluetooth telephone functionality with USB interface, BMW Professional radio, CD drive, iDrive Controller, functional bookmarks, built-in 6.5" display with split-screen function.

What about BMW Apps? Do I need this to get extra functions and what does it offer me? Is it compatible with both systems?
-At this moment in time its pretty crap, it allows certain apps running on your Iphone to display info on the IDrive screen (Web radio for example..) and the ability to use the internet via the IDrive knob.

On the contrary I'd say don't pay for the RTTI, it's terrible. Has failed me many times, if you're on an important trip just use Google Maps it's a million times better. Frequently RTTI will warn me of 30 minute delays on the way home, with the A36 solid red - all the while I zoom along it without a car in sight. Terrible software in this instance. It also tried to send me down a cycle path once.

Everyone saying about real time traffic.. I have business media and it has traffic information of all the routes within something like 80 miles and on long journeys Regularly tells me there's a delay up ahead and provides a diversion.. is this not traffic info then? Or just not classed as real time? Because it even tells me when the traffic marker appeared. Given that the car has connecteddrive, SIM card and teleservices etc as standard id be surprised if it's doing this solely based on TMC

Also the eco pro etc I thought that was a standard feature of the 330e and is a feature of the gearbox in conjunction with the nav system which I suggest will be slightly better with a pro nav if it's a bit faster at picking things up etc

One thing though...if you're getting 10-12 miles before the battery is exhausted then either you've left the lid up on your roof box or your pet elephant is hiding under your tartan picnic blanket.

Hi Ray, interesting read and makes sense to me regarding driving style.
I was wondering how much fuel you normally have in the tank and if this has any effect on the reported vehicle range?
I've spent the last week with a full tank getting a range of 16 or 17 miles each day.
This morning, with only half a tank, i'm seeing a range of 22 miles on my App without changing anything else.
Just a thought, but is the car intelligent enough to calculate the extra range due to the weight reduction in fuel?

Have any of you had near misses with pedestrians yet?

I saw a 330e almost hit the owner of the car parked in front today. He was getting stuff from his boot and didn't hear the 330e pulling off!

Yes quite a few times actually! You need to go easy in car parks and residential streets.

Have found myself a couple of times sitting behind a pedestrian as they walk 50 yards down the car park in the middle of the road oblivious to the fact im behind them, if you click it in to save mode so the engine kicks in that's usually enough to let them know you are there

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the great advice and info on here. As a newbie I've found out so much. I'm planning on ordering one tomorrow. It's going to be white Msport with the plus pack, black interior with blue stitching and Estoril interior. Everyone has their own tastes but I particularly like the blue calipers on the White car. I've looked at one in the dealership and I'm very happy. One small thing that's bugging me is the lack of "m" badge on the car. Why? I know they dump the e-drive badge on the rear but surely they could have both.

Is it possible for a dealer to fit one? Not any old tat badges just what would be on the equivalent 320 Msport etc.

Very much a first world problem I grant you but if you are paying this much cash it's nice to get what you want.. No?

They'll sell them - it's a standard part, or buy them online http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/M-Sport-Wing-Side-Badge-...

Can't say I miss them personally. It's not an M car so why bother...but as you say you should get what you want

I bought this car because I drive into London everyday and it's congestion charge exempt. I started with trying to rely on the auto setting but it really didn't work in rush hour London and I'd be out of charge way too quickly. The total journey is about 15 miles and I've been gaming the system by starting on battery save for the first 6 miles which are fast(ish) A roads and then switching to auto. This seems to be working really well and I get to my destination with around 45-50% battery. No charger available to recharge. Unfortunately I haven't yet figured out the best way to use the system on my way home. On auto within a couple of miles I'm down to 22% so the economy on the way home is much poorer.

Just a thought, but does anyone think as technology improves with the batteries,BMW could upsell higher rated batteries that would extend the range?

Did you know the current batteries are made by Samsung? Y'know... those people that made the Note 7... smile

(I'm not anti 330e here, mine turns up in December!)
