I got my 330e on salary sacrifice through the NHS. It is a shame that it will be stopping as it is about the only 'benefit' there is for working in the NHS.

Anyhow - back to 330e efficiency. After being told by BMW Genius to 'play' with the various eDrive settings whilst driving the car (which is a little dangerous!) it only made mpg worse. They then suggested I keep the car in SAVE mode. This then reduce MPG down to about 15-20mpg!

Finally they have taken my hint and a referring the matter to some one who apparently may know what they are talking about.

1. I thought the only recharged the battery to a max of 50%? In SAVE mode mine keeps recharging it to 98%, in fact starting with a full battery it tries to keep it at 100%!

2. In any other mode even with 20 miles to go it lets the battery drop to 3% before not letting it go any further. Surely it would be more efficient to just let the battery not go below 10%, and use the engine when it gets to 10%?

Do other peoples cars behave in the same way?

Grumble grumble I know, but neither the local dealership or BMW appear to know anything, if this is how the car is supposed to be I will have to live with it...
Let me know what they say. From delivery mine was behaving the same.battery save mode keeps charging the battery around 93/94 mark. Also indeed it easily drops to 3 percent and starts charging battery with a very cold engine. My nav is on it should know that it can charge the battery a while later after ice comes to operating temp which will use less fuel to charge. The whole charging logic can be improved significantly.

Thanks for that. Where did you get all the details from?
I tend to phone bmw customer service (Google for it; there's an 0370 number) every so often, as well as getting voluntary updates from the dealer. You'll need the dealer order number as a reference though. BMW Customer Services can give you the last date of status change and what that was. Saves hassling the dealer too much.

Various searching has led me to believe that Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics ship all BMWs and they have a track and trace page; although I've read a number of times that people have failed to track there VIN on there. On the schedules page you can find ships that are leaving any port they service and put the destination in as Southampton. I can't remember why I think it's Bremerhaven that they ship from, and I don't know if it's always Southampton they come into. Or indeed if my car will be coming into Southampton. So if you know when your car is at the port of exit you can make guesses at which ship it might be on (click on the route details and it'll give the name of the vessel for that voyage). You can then go onto marinetraffic and search for the vessel name to see where it is.

Oh, and the VIN is shown in the dealer system (along with the 'Dlr order' number that you need to talk to customer services). With all of the updates I've received from the dealer they've shown a capture of the order system (looks a bit like a Ceefax page - remember Ceefax?). That will give a VIN prefix and a chassis number. Both together give a complete VIN. The chassis number (the last 7 digits of the VIN) can be used in the BMW Driver's Guide App as well to download the User Guide before you receive the vehicle (although it took a while for the chassis number to register as valid) - and you can use it to add the vehicle to connected drive.

Hope that helps!

Just received this from Tusker about the government review. Looks like my cars still on order, yippie!!!! I ordered mine beginning of Oct, got a date of mid May still, does anyone think this is a bit long? Might give the dealer a ring and ask them instead of Tusker.
https://www.tuskerdirect.com/hmrc-update.html

[. Just says on order, the next tab to that is on transit to dealer so I guess it won't tell me the build date. I think I'll liaise with the dealer as they should have more details. I popped into a BMW dealership yesterday to have a look at the boot size because I've been told that you lose a bit of space due to the battery. They didn't have one in stock to look at but a relayed message from one of the managers was that it don't have split fold seats in the 330e. I told them that I'm sure it does because I added it to my extras via the comfort package. Can anyone clarify this please. Thanks]

Probably doesn't have a proper build slot yet. BMW originally quoted mine as 5 months as it didn't have a proper slot, then came down to 14 weeks once it did. Suspect that is happeneing a lot with these cars.

I have the comfort pack on mine just to get the heated seats and split fold seats. Heated steering wheel is nice though! As standard it doesn't have them though.

So on Battery Save mine charges to 52% actively but I suppose with significant regenerative braking etc it would go higher? In stop/go crawling traffic it will discharge the battery to 3% before kicking the engine in but in anything faster than a crawl the engine cuts in around 10% and charges to 15% before going back to normal.

So previously, I thought I read somewhere that there was some statement/rule/regulation, that PHEVs could only recharge to 50% off the ICE. I now wonder if that has changed.

Mine was built in November, got it a couple of weeks ago, on save mode it definitely charges all the way up to 100% if I want it to. I wonder if it's the older ones that only charge to 50-52%? How old is yours? Has it got the latest version of iDrive etc?

Pretty happy with mine, did my first long run yesterday, 120 miles with the M27>M3>A30>M25>M40>A40 into central London, averaged 52mpg and that was playing with save mode when I thought traffic was flowing enough, got into the hotel car park with 60% charge remaining which will do me good for the A40 on the way back out later in the week.

Mine is a happy charger, just never stops. I would love to have a battery hold button. Currently I just flick it into sports that seem rto do the trick.

I have had a response from BMW today about navigation destinations.

If you add multiple destinations in to the Nav system, it treats each one as an individual destination, and therefore the car optimises battery usage based on the current destination. BMW have confirmed to me that they say this is correct functionality.

Their advice is to use BMW Route Planner and import via USB, with 1 destination, and drag the line to create 'way points' for multiple destinations. I managed to do this (with some faff).

And guess what... I have no menu option on my vehicle to import :-( I am guessing this is because I only have Business Nav, not Pro Nav.

No where on the BMW website (that I could see) does it say unless you buy Pro you wont be able to make best use of the battery on journeys.

Re battery usage/recharging, it has been raised with a technical team and they are still awaiting an answer. If they do not get an answer they are suggesting that the car will have to be booked in with a dealer.

4 hours until I collect mine. Can't come quick enough.
Any tips for first time users? I've read up on it a bit and am glad I heard about the petrol cap thing where you have to wait until it says before opening it.
Thanks

Just put it in manual shift.. keeps the engine running but doesn't use save mode.. will charge a bit though as you're not using the battery but mpg is better than save mode. You don't have to change gear either if you just leave it it'll continue to auto change

Good suggestion, but putting into ds mode will change the shift points if i am not mistaken. Will try anyways. Thanks

I think mine was one of the first in the country, I took delivery in March. I'm hoping that when I take it in for a first service there may be a software update.

Spotify say it only works on the 7 series for Android...
https://support.spotify.com/is/listen_everywhere/i...

I find the BMW Connected Classic app just causes problems on my phone (galaxy s5) and also won't stream audio through the usb when using the connected app. There is meant to be a new version of the connected app being released in quarter 1 2017 which I'm hoping works better.

So how do you recommend streaming music until it is fixed? If it is fixed? Just bluetooth?
Thanks for your reply

Have you paid the subscription for Online Entertainment? If not then you don't have the data plan to be able to use the in-car app, you need to buy the subscription through BMW it won't work with just a vanilla user account as you need the data element, I suspect. I have paid for online entertainment and it's works great!

Ive been really disappointed with Spotify working also. I saw that they are heavily advertising "spotify integration" on the current 1 series in there ads but i cant see online if that works for Andorid or just iOS as with other models (except 7 Series).

I got my 330e in April, does anyone know if the they will release an update to upgrade to the latest iDrive?

Does anyone else have an issue with the Sav Nav (Pro)?

Often if im on a motorway it will try to bring me off at a junction only to bring me straight through and back onto the same motorway; it should have instead just continued straight past the junction down the motorway! Its caught me a few times now in unfamiliar places.

Its not related to traffic as it happen when the motorway traffic is fine.
