I'm wondering how the pre conditioning works; doing this must use up charge level, so does this reduce battery level below 100% before I drive off, or does it top off from the outlet (I have a type 2 charge box installed).
As far as I know, preconditioning is from the battery (you will find preconditioning is available from the app even on zero range and not plugged in). If the preconditioning time falls in the charging window, then the battery will get topped up. khrest said:
IE, if my tariff window is 0100-0700 and I want to leave home at 0900 with preconditioning. Is it possible to set everything up so I leave with 100% and a warm car but also take the initial charge from 10%-100% from the reduced tariff rate?
No, as above you will leave with a warm car but <100% battery as energy has been used for the precoditioning.TB404 said:
Anyone had a chance to test drive the new 330e (G20) How does it compare with the 'old' one (F30)? Thoughts are appreciated, I hear conflicting views.
All the reviews point to it being better, same as the G20 is improved as a drivers car over the previous model. The only opinion that differed to that was on this thread but you'll always get that
I could only test a 330i prior to ordering the E but it was fair to say it had moved the game on quite a bit over the 330d we currently have as a company car.
Ours lands in 10-14 days
Cool,
Please keep us posted.
I saw on several forums people saying the new 3 series is a bit less sporty than the F30 maybe it's the new adaptive suspension (compared to the old M sport one) or teething problems with software for teh engine...
I really love my 330e, other than a complete lack of technology, it's the sweetest car I've ever had

Evening all
Currently getting into the car after a full charge and it’s now showing 10 miles. I know it’s cold but this is the lowest I’ve ever seen it. It’s a 2017 car with only 19k and has been charged nearly every day since having it.
Anyone else getting this level of mileage or has it got a problem?

18 Reg 330E here and still getting an indicated 18miles range today. Which translates into a real range of around 13 to 15miles.
Live in London, so it hasn't been too cold here yet, and nearly always drive in ECO PRO when on battery power.
Don't think mine has ever dropped below an indicated 13 miles, even in the coldest part of last winter.
If you aren't pre-conditioning, and do lots of short, infrequent journeys, then in theory I could see how it might be estimating such a low figure. The first mile or so of driving in the winter can easily drain 10% or 15% of the charge from the battery, mostly in heating the car. So driving a short distance of a mile or so, then parking up for a long while, letting the car get cold again, and then repeating might make the car estimate such a short range based on that pattern of driving. Does that sound like your typical kind of usage ?
Hope this helps.

Yeh loads of short journeys, as only live 6 miles from work and charge there everyday giving me a free ride to work and back usually. It’s made it through the last 2 years doing that but can’t get anywhere near it now. And don’t have excess heat, don’t use aircon don’t even clear the rear window !!
Really wondering if the batteries have a fault
Really wondering if the batteries have a fault
I think the key thing here, is that if you were doing exactly the same journey, in the same driving style, in the same kind of temperature last year and the year before, and now find that the actual battery charge remaining is much lower now when you arrive at work or home (rather than just looking at the indicated range - which like the petrol range can be all over the place, as it's just an estimate) then it's worth asking the dealer to check the battery health.

Ours is not far off that - although up in manchester its been very cold, and also wet (ovbs) for the last few weeks, so lights, heater, wipers etc.. stop-start traffic has been worse too.Currently getting into the car after a full charge and it’s now showing 10 miles. Last year for most the journeys we used to preheat when plugged in and then leave the heater off.. which gave us about 12-14 miles range.. but with the amount of rain we have had, and the associated misting up in the car, the A/C needs to be on.

Ours landed on Friday, driving around with zero charge has been at the 38-40mpg which has been pretty reasonable, with a full battery it's pushing 70mpg ish, will know more on how it is after a few runs to the office in Manchester this week. Please keep us posted.

Steering, handling and ride seem much improved over the F30 330d we had - the car hides it's weight pretty well, I've only played with the xtraboost the few times so I'm not comfortable to compare it's performance apart from to say it was never going to have the dollop of shove that the 330d had.
Braking is different, not sure if it's the weight or the way the regen braking kicks in first but will take some getting used to for any committed driving.
For daily use being able to run it in Eco Pro whilst still having the sports steering/suspension is pretty much perfect - firm but not overly imho.
Things that have annoyed -
Lane control interference, the damn thing will fight you trying to get back in to your lane after overtaking (Indicate out but not back in as per highway code) so that's been disabled - shocking to see it will function up to 130mph!
Range - if you're a high miler the 330-340 hybrid range is going to be a PITA but heyho
Lovely place to be, the interior feels like it's skipped a generation or two from the F30 and car felt quite engaged driving along some of the interesting roads we have in North Wales.

Thank you, very interesting feedback!
I replied back to you on the other thread, I've seen more yardage out of the mileage, depending on how it's been driven before being filled/charged I've seen it nearly hit 400miles on the combined range - an improvement for sure and quite workable.Off the mark the performance is down on the 330d, from a good rolling start I'd say it feels more linear for sure - surprisingly so, the 45e engine in a 3 series would be very impressive!!!
What is the main differences between the two cars below?
3 SERIES SALOON 330E SE PRO 4DR AUTO
3 SERIES SALOON 330E M SPORT 4DR AUTO
What extra do you get with the M sport is it just badges or anything useful the M sport is coming up as more expensive on my car choice but i can't see anything extra in the spec lists?

I'd be intrigued to see how the fuel economy is on the G20 with no charge, it very well priced on my company car scheme, ideally id want a estate but the saving for me are huge, but i need ot be able to get 40mpg out of it on a run with no charge, for the savings to make sense, im only able to charge at home sadly.

I'd say without charge you'd probably be able to muster 40mpg out of it pretty easy on a run, having it in Hybrid Pro would also help I'd expect as any charge generated from driving would then be used wisely.Ours is now running 51mpg and climbing - had a charging pod installed at home, seems to put more miles in than the slow charge did for some reason.
It only gets charged at home and does two main commute trips a week - this week will be
160 miles with one charge - Mon-Weds
60 miles with one charge - Thurs & Fri

Does anyone else find the charging flap a pain to close?
Mine never closes first time it usually takes a few attempts and my F30 was exactly the same.
Yep, the trick is not to push it at the edge but a bit further in. A firm prod is required though. Also now that the light ring is gone and replaced with a just a small LED panel, plugging in where it is dimly lit is literally a stab in the dark!Mine never closes first time it usually takes a few attempts and my F30 was exactly the same.
