Can I ask owners a quick question please?

If you turn the car on, ready to go, and then select SPORT+ mode, does the petrol engine fire up and stay on?
If you want to "pre run" the engine to get oil around the bearings after you press the start button just stamp the accelerator and she fires up. My only worry with the 330e is when you gun it the Cold Dry engine jumps straight into 3000 rpm and this cannot be good for it!! Jon
I am in the fortunate position that I get free fuel from work, so I am not that concerned about mpg. I selected the car on the basis of 7% BIK.

I don't expect it'll see a charger very often, and I will likely run it as a normal car with both electric and petrol drive running 100% of the time. So it looks like I get in, start it and select the left hand position on the gear selector and just run it like that.

Thanks

Mine arrived this morning smile

Looks great.. It was raining lightly when it arrived and got slightly dirty so I gave it a wipe down, quick polish and sealed with a decent wax/sealant hybrid (made sense lol)

Now I just need to drive it lol

Hi All,

I am also waiting on a new 330e, it's nice to hear they are finally coming through! I ordered in January and I am being told it should be with me by the end of July.

Spec below

330e M Sport Saloon B48M 2.0
Estoril Blue
Black with Dark Oyster highlight / Black
19" M Double-spoke style 442M alloy wheels
Reversing Assist camera
Brushed aluminium interior trim with Pearl chrome
Exterior Mirrors - folding with anti-daz
Split-folding rear seats
Seat heating. front
M Sport Plus package
Media package - Professional Plus

I did have a demo for a few days when my local dealer finally got their hands on one and have to say it was a lovely car to drive. My daily commute should just about be covered on battery I hope.

Cheers,
Si

I have thought about this too being an issue with all hybrid cars, more so for second hand buyers. I probably wouldn't touch a hybrid though once they are out of warranty. Engines being revved high when cold, batteries near the end of their life. No thank you.

they're not stupid. all engines seem to have a pre warming system.

The oil pump will also most likely be electric as per the new 3 litre engines.

Getting frustrated now. Ordered 21st Jan, and has been build week 27 (4th July) with delivery end of July...

Now been told due to a part shortage, there is a 6 week delay!! Grrr!!

Colleague has a similar order with a few more options and his isn't delayed! frown

Wonder what the part is biggrin

Hi all,

For those that have theirs, do you ever get any ignition problems?

Mine was delivered today and I took it for a spin, few
Journeys totalling 35miles.

On start up its electric.. After a while the car (i assume) tries to switch to petrol but an error flashes on screen saying "ignition error, cannot start engine.. Contact bmw". Although a quick switch to manual or sport mode and the engine fires up instantly.

I'm hoping it's just an initial problem as I've only had the car a day and will wait a few days to see.. Don't really want it going to bmw when I only got it today!

Has anyone experienced this? Just seems to be at the start of the journey in the standard mode, in full auto, comfort mode

Think BMW are making excuses up as they go along. Think yourself lucky with a 6 week delay, my 330e should have been built this week - now I'm being told it's been delayed until November!!!!! (Ordered 29/02/16)

I had a call from my dealer a few weeks ago to say mine will be delayed due to the Sat Nav parts being an issue after the earthquakes in Japan.

Had an email a few days ago to say it's all been resolved and it's back on track.

Unsure what to believe now.

We have ordered three cars with the same spec.

If your engine isn't switched on, it will not get up to normal operating temperature. It will always take any engine time to get warmed up. On a hybrid you are more likely to just use the engine to overtake etc and then go back to electric, so you are putting a lot of load through a cold engine.

Diesels use glow plugs to heat the fuel for combustion, but that's not the same as the engine being at operating temperature.

I'm aware of that, most of the PHEV's have oil and coolant heaters so the engine is 'warm' when called into use. It enables the engine to sit at a safe temp before being used.

I very much doubt a major manufacturer isn't aware of the issues of running a cold engine at high revs.. I'd be very surprised if the car didn't have some form of auto lubrication/oil heating or engine prep

From a warranty point alone it would cost bmw a fortune in engine issues if not

The Cooling system between the E-machine and ICE are the same, so one will pre-heat the other

This may have been mentioned before, but I didn't realise they were sending these out with Super Sport's on!

So mine arrived on Thursday and pleased with it so far - only a limited number of miles but the commute was done on 95% electric alone, so bodes well for the future.

One thing which slightly vexed me though was the charging cable supplied with the car. It's got a big transformer type thing and a standard household plug at one end, and then the Type 2 plug at the other which is fine for charging the car at home.

I was expecting (perhaps wrongly!) this would also in some way be suitable for charging at public charging points, but the two I've visited need a seperate Type 2 to Type 2 cable - which appear to be around £130-£180?! So I can't charge the car at these points unless I fork out for this cable - is that right?

Yes, you need two cables. The 'transformer type thing' is the control stuff which is built into the wall boxes when out and about. If you had a home charging point installed, you'd not use the supplied cable either.

Type 2 rapid chargers have the tethered cable so you can use them if there is a public network one handy for you. Beware the Zoe etc drivers frowning at you using "their" rapid charge point thoughbiggrin Otherwise yes, you need the extra cable

My only comment to BMW after delivery was that this type 2 / type 2 cable should have been supplied. But look on the bright side, the home charger cable you get, which I will never use, is very expensive and makes the other one seem cheap. I bought the bmw one with the bag included online from North Oxford bmw Ltd for £120+vat.
