A type 2 rapid on your car is no different to destination charger - slow. You'd be like sitting on the motorway doing 30mph.
If you think it makes sense to put 12 miles of range into you car for every hour of your life, and blocking people who can put up to 120 miles of range into their car and have no other choice, then carry on.
Destination chargers, ones where you need a cable, are much more appropriate for your car as their max speed is not much different whatever car you have.

There is a public car park beside my work with a rapid charger - that nobody uses. I only ever use it for an hour and leave a note of my number on the dash. It is entirely possible that there are chargers out there that do not have a 5 car queue of EVs waiting at them. Your comment is exactly why I put the smiley in my post.
I wonder if anyone is in a position to be able to arrange a strong offer for a group buy for BMW's Type 2 cable, given that so many of us are receiving our cars now or in the foreseeable future...
Perhaps people could indicate their interest so we could try and arrange a good price?

I have thought about this too being an issue with all hybrid cars, more so for second hand buyers. I probably wouldn't touch a hybrid though once they are out of warranty.
Engines being revved high when cold, batteries near the end of their life. No thank you.
It's a good point - I've been thinking exactly the same re the batteries - can't be a cheap swap out!Engines being revved high when cold, batteries near the end of their life. No thank you.

Hi all,
For those that have theirs, do you ever get any ignition problems?
Mine was delivered today and I took it for a spin, few
Journeys totalling 35miles.
On start up its electric.. After a while the car (i assume) tries to switch to petrol but an error flashes on screen saying "ignition error, cannot start engine.. Contact bmw". Although a quick switch to manual or sport mode and the engine fires up instantly.
I'm hoping it's just an initial problem as I've only had the car a day and will wait a few days to see.. Don't really want it going to bmw when I only got it today!
Has anyone experienced this? Just seems to be at the start of the journey in the standard mode, in full auto, comfort mode
I've had mine for a month now - 1300 miles and have not ever seen this error messageFor those that have theirs, do you ever get any ignition problems?

I have experienced twice I think - where I've pulled away from a junction and the car seemed to dip i.e. in wrong gear or petrol engine a bit cold.
I did have the coolant top up error after around 1000 miles, but just hit 'ok' on the console controller and haven't seen it since.
It's a crazy situation where this car has so many different drive options - not just the chosen options but when fuel is getting low or battery low - the car just seamlessly does what it needs to do!
I love it so much - it's injected so much fun into driving again and that's without considering the comfort and handling of this awesome car

They make zero sense as a private purchase, new or used. Just as a low BIK company car.
As a new purchase they make plenty of sense.. It's a fast bmw with low tax and great fuel economy plus it's a nicer drive than the equivalent diesel and no tractor noise.. If I was buying new between a 330d 330i or 330e I'd choose the E for the above reasons. Smoother than a diesel too. Same as any PHEV or electric car. A tesla p85 is 700bhp in a saloon car and plenty of kit with tiny fuel costs. Mcpaynter said:

They cost more, once the tiny battery is flat, they're heavy and not great of fuel. Residuals are worse on PHEV's, so how do they make sense for a private buyer?jason61c said:

Simply from a personal driving perspective. Regardless of residuals it's what I would choose.. It's just down to personal preference.. RRP wise a 330d is the same price in some cases more. Although if we're including discounts then you get pick up brand new 340i msport for £30k so that would be my choice.. But for a daily driver this is perfect because it offers the best of both worlds, emission free town travel, grunt for when you want some fun, and the latest technology.. Having driven a 320d recently this is a much nicer drive imo. Obviously the biggest appeal is to company car drivers in the 40% bracket because BIK is so low, but on the whole PHEV/hybrid will become the majority market I think, and be the next phase of performance cars/M cars etc because of the instant torque and decent fuel economy.

There are no Teslas with 700bhp as the cars are limited by the battery. The price to get a 500bhp tesla is over £100k in a useable form, that's an M6 Gran coupe and a lot of fuel.Low tax on BIK, road tax wise it's maybe £150 a year.
These cars exist to explot the company car tax rules. You may make the numbers work for you, but it's very marginal as a private buyer
Hi, first time poster.
Have found this thread very helpful as I'm just processing an order for one myself. One query though...
Would a set of golf clubs and a trolley fit in the boot?
The reason I'm asking is that on my original quote i forgot to add the split folding seats and now i need to know whether i need to revise that. Im tempted to change it anyway just for flexibility.
Thanks

I would spec the folding seats. The boot is smaller than I expected and isn't helped by the lack of folding seats! Have found this thread very helpful as I'm just processing an order for one myself. One query though...

I am hoping so too! - I have seen the boot and it appears that the loss of space is in the height from the boot floor to the lid. In any case I have ordered the split seats but would rather not have any golf equipment on show when the car is parked up after a round.

Finally picked up my car yesterday. White with Red interior, MSport Plus pack, Professional Media pack, adaptive headlights and Sunroof. Cant stop staring at it! Have only done a few miles but feels like a massive step up from the the Merc C220 diesel its replacing and even the 320d I tested. I was concerned about the MSport Suspension and the 19's being to hard but the ride is perfect. Just need to resist opening her up too much until I get a few miles on the clock.
Mine was delivered last week and thoroughly enjoying it so far. Could anyone else confirm if there is a separate user manual for the multimedia / Nav system as it isn't really covered in the standard manual other than using the i-drive controller. I have professional Nav and have worked out most things, but didn't want to sit in the car on the drive reading the installed user guide to figure out how to use it all. If I'm missing an additional manual I'll have a moan at the supplying dealer.
