there must be 1000+ registered by now (howmanyleft showed this many by q3 2015 - more likely 1200 by q1 2016).

given about only 50 are for sale, that's a pretty low resale rate for this type of car. also, as most of these look like they are dealer demos / stock, that means very few actual customer cars are up for sale.

Points to a pretty happy group of owners....

I would say it points to the fact that most were leased or on PCP deals - are there that many people who really walk in to a dealership and hand over / transfer £100K of their own hard earned on a BMW?

It will be interesting to see what happens when those cars come on to the market en masse at the end of their contracts

I know of at least one - me! I hate PCP'ing cars when there is money in the bank to buy one. Unless it's 100% interest free and still get a healthy discount. No such thing as a free lunch however.

Because they look cack and the technology will likely become very expensive to maintain. Also fule at £1 a litre anyone would surely rather a V8.

Spec savers visit well over due.

Explain how it will become expensive with BMW warranties and such.

The oldest cars are coming up to 2 years - thats 1 year of included warranty left. Battery tech on cars is well known for being expensive which is why some manufacturers are offering extended warranties as standard to address fears. Its also a car that is more complex than a normal BMW as it has both traditional components and the new stuff. It might be a factor and people are selling now while they can sell with warranty.

My personal take is its a BMW and as good as they may be you still queue up next to a 116d owner at the garage and they want to engage in conversation as they feel you both have the same interests. I may be a snob in that regard but its why I'm moving away from the brand.

I suspect they'll be like the Audi R8 and float around the 45-65k bracket forever if looked after so buying when they hit sub 70k could be a smart place if you really want one.

BMW will let you extend the warranty for years. I personally wouldnt want to be running an m5 at 10-15 years old, however there seems to be no shortage of people willing to, and pay a steep premium over a regular 5 series to do so.

I brought this up on the Ferrari read M3 with poor paint job thread. BMW prices now span £14,000 to £100,000+. Once you get into those premium sorts of prices i think its hard to justify doing so with a "regular" 5/8ths car brand. I guess the justification with the i8 is that its something very different. But you're completely right. You're there with your i8 and sitting beside the riff raff with their 1 series. I noticed it when i bought my Alfa v6 some years ago from an Alfa dealer. All very well Alfa pushing itself as a "premium" brand but at the time the dealership had FIAT also, so you ended up, come service time, sitting in a portacabin waiting on your car to be serviced with weirdos in Fiat Puntos. Not the image of Alfa ownership i was sold.

And add on the fact the mechanics and more importantly the wash and polish guys seem to treat all cars the same- AKA badly!

In my experience, no different to Ferrari then. I don't let them wash or polish mine!

I'm with you on that one. But ditto my 911, it usually comes back looking like someone threw a bucket over it. And yes I use an OPC.

Impreza looks purposeful and everything in its place. Nothing fancy just functional. Its not trying to be pretty and I never said it was, I didn't buy it because I thought it looked pretty.

The I8 is trying far too hard and as a result it looks awkward and crap. But obviously the fanbois will never hear that about their precious marque. rolleyes

It does look cack. Many people will tell you that, very awkward looking but then obviously some do like it just as they will any car. Its no 458 or DBS is it lets be honest? Or do you honestly think it compares???

Warranty? Are the batteries warranted? If so for how long and what is the cost of replacement? The motors that charge them are they fully warranted? For how long?

Fuel -goes up, goes down....great observation. Your point??
