So who is getting a Model 3?

I think my main problem with the model 3 is that it is looking seriously fugly! Without the need for the bonnet height to engine block they could have done something really elegant... But to me, is just looks tacky sadly.
The Model S is the best of the lot as I agree with many others that the X is even worse...
The i3 and i8 are lightyears ahead by comparision IMHO.
Just making sure I've got this right. You're saying this is lightyears ahead of a Model 3 in terms of styling? The Model S is the best of the lot as I agree with many others that the X is even worse...

Quite!
The Model 3, for me, in my opinion, to my eyes, for my tastes (ad hoc - you get the idea) is a) quite bland, b) badly proportioned. The pic above is probably one of the better angles, but in the same vein, you're telling me this looks good?
To me, it looks like "generic C segment car type A" from some budget PC racing game, with little or no interesting features other than the lack of front grill... At least the i3 stands out, and like most BMW designs, I'd imagine will follow exactly the same pattern as they all have, be shocking and then turn out to set the trend and survive well. I can't see the Model 3 being hailed as a design classic... I'd they'd made it more like a 60's swooping, flowing design they'd have my money!
I guess, for me again, having a blank sheet to work from, and no previous design history or hertiage to come from, it's the one area Tesla seem to have missed. I'm sure there's an element of "make it look normal", but it just seems like a missed opportunity. On the flipside, you could probably say that about most cars now, so what do I know?
I can see your argument. The i8 is nice, but i don't like the i3. Also both are quite expensive - granted, there's no price info on the optioned up T3, chances are it will work out similar to i3, which will be more than i want to spend. If it holds to Musk's predictions of mid 20s to early 30s, I'll take a slightly more bland design (even though i still think it looks pretty swish) over the 'pug' look of i3.

I just can't see how it'll be mid 20's without cutting some serious corners... and 30's is i3 price without the carbon fibre. For me, it'd just make me want a Model S because of the looks

Yes that is a valid point, a fully loaded, dual motor, more powerful Model 3 with Supercharging could be quite expensive, but I'm happy to wait and see on the final pricing before deciding. At current exchange rates at a one to one conversion (which I appreciate it may not be), we are looking at roughly:
Base price $35,000 - £28,500
Options based on Model S pricing: (hoping they will be cheaper on M3 but who knows)
Autopilot - $5000 - £4000
Premium pack - $3000 - £2500
Sub Zero pack - $1000 - £800
Sound pack - $2500 - £2000
More powerful battery - $8,500 to $10,000 - £7000 to £8000 (based on diff between 60D and 75D, and 75D to 90D)
Dual Motor - $5000 - £4000
Supercharging - who knows?
Less Govt grant of £4,500 if it still exists in 2018.
I'd love to know what the largest battery they are going to fit in these is. I read somewhere Elon saying the 0-60 of the top spec Model 3's will be "as close to two seconds as possible" but I can't find the article anywhere.
There is a part of me that keeps looking at Model S's to fill the gap.

New reservations will now be looking at 2018 for delivery of their cars.
If you have reserved a Model 3 close to the launch date, I suspect you'll be able to sell it at a premium the day after you take delivery of it.
In any case, the £/$ can move significantly between now and the time you have to pay the balance.

Any thoughts on this (asking here, because this seems to be the most active debate):

They were too early to market originally, but what will "new battery tech" this offer?

Does anyone know if the Model 3 is going to be a hatch or a saloon (with boot). Also, will there be a front storage area?
I'm really struggling to find any solid details on this car which is strange as Tesla are saying they'll ramp up to produce 80,000 cars this year.
Any news also on the battery size?
I keep dithering over placing a deposit but can't bring myself to do it as there's such a lack of information on this car.

saloon boot. IIRC its because they want the glass to go all the way up and over from the windscreen to the bootlid so they couldnt split it in the middle for a hatch. Shame as it would be a much more usable car with a hatchback.I'm really struggling to find any solid details on this car which is strange as Tesla are saying they'll ramp up to produce 80,000 cars this year.
