how did you get on?
I booked to go and see a 330e first. It looked nice but it was just so bland. A faceless 3 series on a forecourt of dozens of similar looking bland cars. Even though I'd booked a drive I didn't even bother taking it out.

Went around the corner to see the volvo. Not bland, a rare sight on the road. Went for a drive. Couldn't drive on volts alone as it was just back from another forecourt and it was flat. However it pulled well in hybrid and power modes.

The two things I didn't like: the dash and the boot.

The dash reminded me of a mid 80's Astra GTE. I just don't think they have got it right, looks cheap to me at least. Why do manufacturers think just because it is electric/hybrid they have to go all funky with the design. The BMW i3 is like this, a good car but looks completely stupid.

The boot is miniature! Small anyway for the style of car and with the high floor you'd struggle to get a weekly shop in there. My V70 will take a double mattress flat, this car certainly wouldn't.

It's well speced, goes well and should give good mpg. I just need to work out if I can live with the other things.

I got a quote the other day for passat GTE from nhs fleet solutions - was about the same cost as the D5 twin engine - might be worth a look

The engine only aspect of the passat is the worry, my mates a3 etron does 35mpg on the motorway, a work golf gte does about 37mpg on the motorway. Passat does look nice though.

I agree about the boot, even in the none PHEV version its small on the v60.

I am currently holding off taking a lease car - partly because I have just put new exhaust and brakes on my outback, and I feel I need to get some use out of them, and partly to see what the outcome of the salary sacrifice review is. Hopefully by the time I am ready to move, some of these volvos and passats will be on the road for proper user review.

The boot space is reduced, but its just about big enough - overall its almost the same size as my outback, and I think I could like with the dieselly rumble, and I quite like its slightly different look, plus the seats are very comfy, but the passat looks smart, classless and there is no encroachment on boot space. It looks like the passat has a bigger battery than the golf, so presumably that helps with the overall bigger car

So its here.......

So, mpg on trips so far between 47 and 58mpg. I've a 400mile round trip tomorrow, i'll update on what it does on that.

Nice and smooth, really quite quick, only niggles are nowhere to put loose change and I hate electronic parking brakes!!

Stereo upgrade sounds nice, built in kids seats are nice. I'm pleased with the colour's i've gone for!

That looks very nice, Supposed to have had a delivery date on mine last week but heard nothing yet!

Wish I had been more adventurous on the colours too, I went for boring black with black leather.

Erm, quite a bit, 8 days ish in, about 1200miles on the clock.

Seems to average about 44ish mpg, same as all the others, so no weight penalty.

I've charged it once, battery lasted about 26 miles.

I think getting use to the modes etc I'll get a bit more out of it.

Its properly smooth, very very real world quick with the twin turbo d5 and battery.

Fuel only range is about 450miles.

I'd be interested to see what this is like in a few more thousand miles, once the engine loosens up.

I felt pretty sure my merc was getting ste fuel economy, but checking the trip computer, I have managed 53mpg @ 39mph over 8,000 miles. A lot better than I thought to be honest and with quite a few 100+ mile trips.

Loving the mpg , hoping the v60 is on the list tomorrow and then its decision time. V60 vs 330e
Really miss the 330e after my weekend test drive but the v60 offers more practicality.

The 330e is a really nice drive, just didn't tick all the boxes the v60 did. I think the v60 is a better place to sit on the motorway also(not quite as good as the c350e on there though).
