Bmw 530e ordered?
Discussion
I am now on 17k miles after just over 1 year.
My lifetime average is 74 mpg which I think is superb.
Monday to Friday generally is 100% electric. I get to plug in at home and work (18 miles away) and these journeys (50% motorway) achieved in 'MAX E Drive mode'. Easily quick enough driving in pure electric and so much fun.
Weekends if local then still in pure electric mode. Obviously some weekends or days off (family trips) involve driving to London, wales, lakes or anywhere up and down the country so this is when the petrol engine is mainly used and gets around 38-40 mpg.
I guess it depends on your situation but it suits my lifestyle having this car.

Just under 12k miles here - lifetime average is currently showing as 81.4 mpg. This continues to go up gradually.
Weekdays I drive it into London in the rush hour but cannot manage to do the whole journey (29 miles coincidentally) on electric. Best so far is 24 miles on electric. I have charging at work and at home.
It took a while to get used to the various modes and I find that changing settings manually seems to get better usage than just leaving it in Auto E drive. I now just use Auto Edrive and Battery Control (never use Max Edrive)
Overall I find it an excellent car - very refined especially in electric mode , very comfortable and enjoyable to drive.
Downsides of the car a few - it is long and quite wide so on country lanes can be a challenge. Car parking spaces can also be tight as the car is so long.
More Electric range say 40 miles would be a bonus. Not sure why they fit the detuned 184bhp 2 litre version rather than the 242bhp 2 litre version.

Ordered mine last week, was told it would be December, just got the email to say it will be mid November. First phev so should be interesting. Any hints on the best way to max range on the electrics and does it regenerate from braking?
Cheers
Paul
Good news, ordered mine in Feb and still not here.......(delayed by the new WLTP paperwork apparently, personally I think it fell of the transporter and they are patching it up )Cheers

That's pretty poor. I ordered at the end of March and have consistently been told to expect delivery in early November. No idea whether that is realistic but I may have to delay the return of my 330e if it looks like the delievery will be later. Looking forward to the 530e though so hope it won't fall of a trailer like yours Westy!

Latest update is next Friday Apparently the delay is due to "paperwork"...............Looking forward to the 530e though so hope it won't fall of a trailer like yours Westy!

That's good news Westy. Don't forget to post up pics and let us know what you think when it finally arrives! What spec did you go for?
530e SE spec with a few options. Head up display, driving assistant (mainly for speed limit display), upgraded stereo, adaptive headlights with high bean assistant and split rear seats.WestyCarl said:

I've gone for those options too - apart from the split rear seats and the driving assistant, but I have gone for the M Sport with Sport Plus pack for the bigger alloys & tints and the comfort pack for electric seats & parking assistant.I'm looking forward to the HUD most I think, as I don't think the parking assistant will be used very often. I think you'd need a lot of time and space to let the car take control of parking and would probably end up holding up all the traffic.
I had an update yesterday and it looks like my car will be ready at the start of October, a month earlier than I expected, so that's a genuine bonus!

Got mine (finally..) last Monday, SE in Black. My initial opinion coming from a 520d SE (estate)
After 12 years of diesels the drive-train refinement is on a completely different level, at speeds above 40 it's genuinely difficult to hear the ICE.
Ride and handling are much improved on the new 5 series, rides potholes better but less body roll around corners than previous (I think all 530e have Msport suspension as standard)
It's perfect for my 15m commute, on edrive I can manage the whole commute on battery, on auto it'll do about 150mpg and have 50% battery left.
Negatives, (apart form boot space...) the steering is a touch too light for my taste, maybe a sport setting will stiffen it up. I don't think the Harmen Karmen stereo is as good as my previous 5. Also the sports seats aren't quite as supportive as the previous model.
However overall I'm very impressed with it so far (and the company car tax saving )

Mine turned up today. So far it is great - remarkably quiet, even with the petrol engine running. Commuting is going to get cheaper than it has been!!
Lovely jubbly. Got any pics for us Clarkey? I'd love to see how those 20" wheels look on a lowered msport suspension in black.
