Mrs B's Electric Classic Cars' converted, 1970 500L.

That’s a really cool thing. What was the cost to convert it?

The price has gone up a lot since we paid about £23,000 in early 2020.

If you can get a build slot, I believe the cost will be about £35k, plus car.

Even at £35k it's still a very cool thing, way more personality than a Tesla..

Have you had any issues? What is the build quality like? I assume the range is quite limited?

I'm no expert. But, everything looks very professionally installed and of high quality. And, I understand that they've refined their installations since Mrs B's 500 was converted.

We've had an issue early on, with 12v battery charging. ECC came from N Wales to Suffolk, picked up the car, returned it to their place, fixed the issue and brought it back to us for no charge (sic).

2023 KIA Soul, in front of its charger.
The 500 is lovely.... but interested to know your thoughts on the Soul?

We've had a (combustion powered!) Soul in the past and loved it, my wife is considering the electric Soul as the Niro is a bit boring, do you rate it?

We chose the Soul for the same reason - the Niro is boring. We like boxy cars. Hence, the Forester & until recently, a Panda Cross.

We use the Soul as a local and rural runabout. Frankly, it's a terrific car, perfect for our needs.

Like all EVs it's quick. But, it is also fun to push on down country lanes. You can really hustle it along. I enjoy using the regen, lift off braking to tuck the car into bends and in 'Sport' mode it puts a smile on my face.

When needed, it pootles around quietly and without fuss. For A roads and motorways it has adaptive cruise, which works well.

Seating position and cabin are good. Specifically, it has buttons for the important stuff, rather than an ipad screen, with interminable sub menus. Though, personally, I wish there was a choice of interior colour, other than black.

Importantly, indicated range is very accurate. Kia/Hyundai are very good with that.

Downsides: the beeping!
I don't think that you can permanently turn off speed warnings. It will beep at indicated 31, 41 etc. Even though the speedo is set at 2mph over. Though, after 4 beeps it stops.

You have to turn off lane assist each journey. Something you get used to quickly.

Small boot. But, that's not an issue for us as it's usually just us and the dog on board & we have other cars available to haul stuff.

All in all, the Soul is a great little car. It's our go to for daily use. Mrs B absolutely loves it.

If you can put up with the minor issues then I believe that you'd enjoy owning one.

One of these is my new car for work. It’s replacing my LPG Duster. Had it 2 days and really pleased and impressed by it. It’s going to do 20k a year so I will be giving it a proper workout.

I've been running my iPace for just over a year now and I'm very pleased with it. Considering I came from a R8 V10 Spyder, it could have been a major shock (no pun intended), but the torque and looks helped massively for me. [url]

Love the wheels! The red interior is brave but I like it.

Sorry, only just seen your reply!

The whole trip was great fun. We did France > Geneva > Pisa > Florence > Como > Bormio > Innsbruck > Heidelberg > Nurburgring > Bruges

2,688 miles in total.

Wow - that's awesome.

And here I was sorta proud of myself having driven my Tesla from Detroit, MI to Palm Springs, CA...

(about 2300 miles, and nothing like that sort of scenery on the route I took)

You're making me feel more comfortable about considering an Ioniq 5 instead of a PHEV for my impending car change. What kid of efficiency/range did you yield on the tour?
