I've had my Ultra TMP now a few days.

Not a bad car, not as small as I thought it was going to be. Plenty big enough for me.

Quick if a little wallowy. Well laid out interior, few niggles that need sorted like the charging glitch and the OPD needing a bit more strength.

Sorry what’s an OPD?

One pedal driving I assume, I just can't get along with it at all. I use the relatively weak first stage regen in our car if in traffic but otherwise prefer it to be off.

Exact same car the wife has ordered. roughly 3 months away for us. she never ordered until we see one so early nov time.

Yeah, important to see it in the flesh. Not the biggest boot but adequate for day to day stuff. Family of 5 with suitcases for a 2 week holiday is probably out of the question but for a car with a small footprint, it's well packaged and will be great around town, easy to park etc.

Plenty of room for rear passengers too. I like it a lot.

I've just had a week in an EX30 as a courtesy car when my V60 PHEV was in the dealership having some work done.

I was impressed with the car. It was an Ultra with the Twin Motor so top of the range. IMO its nicely styled inside and out. The ride and handling were both pretty good and the overall quality seemed at a high level. At the price point it seems good value.

There were some points of irritation though.

The Screen - This is the biggest issue with the car, having everything integrated into the screen. Yes, you get used to it, but simple tasks take too much time to perform, meaning more time with your eyes off the road. The car then has the nerve to warn you that you are not looking at the road. A small instrument cluster or HUD would be a welcome addition, along with one or two physical buttons for the essentials such as hazard lights etc.

Range - WLTP quoted is 279 miles, I was struggling to get 200 miles from a full charge. This was with mixed driving using the 'one pedal' function. I found the 're-gen' not to be very strong at all with no way to adjust this. At some points I even switching off the AC to see if this improved the range. Definitely something to take into consideration.

Performance - Why does a family hatchback need to be so quick? 428bhp, 0-60mph is 3.6 seconds. Obviously I had to try it and its impressive, but totally unnecessary. Also, there was a significant drop off in performance as the state of charge decreased. At times with with less than 50% charge it honestly felt like it had half the power. Is this normal on all EV's?

Charging - This is stating the obvious, but if you don't have a home charger, you cannot rely on the public charging network. As this was a courtesy car it was not ideal trying to charge it with no home charger. I do have the Charge Place Scotland App but the ones I tried were hopeless. Both 7kWh and 22kWh would only charge at a maximum rate of 3kWh. The one 50kWh charger I used worked well, but cost £0.70 per kWh so cost around £18.50 for around 100 miles worth of charge. This makes it around the same cost as petrol but with the added inconvenience of a 30 minute charge time. Yes, this would be eradicated with a home charger, but there will be times when all EV owners will need to charge away from home.

Overall I enjoyed my time in it, but there were too many irritations for me and I was quite happy to get back into the V60.

I don't think I am ready for the future just yet.

The Smart #1 is on the same underpinnings as the EX30, but has a HUD and a driver display in front of the driver. Plus the big screen of course.

The Brabus version is the matching one to the twin motor Ultra.

Shame the Smart looks a bit "girly". To me, the Volvo just looks better.

If the Volvo came with the Smart dashboard and HUD, I'd probably buy one right now.
Top trim level single motor looks like the perfect BEV to replace my XC40 plug-in (unless I can find an XC40 BEV at the right price).

Not normal at all IME. The only time I’ve ever noticed a significant drop off in power on my Polestar 2 the SOC has been <5%. I’d have been tempted to ask Volvo about that.

Re. the power, it’s just a side effect of having a large battery and twin motors. If you want range, you get power. The EX30 Twin Motor has a 64kWh useable battery, so 200 miles of mixed driving sounds about right at this time of year, with 250 miles being achievable in warmer climes.

I’ve seen quite a few of these the last week in the Lake District. I do think they’re great looking cars, however a holiday like this exposes the size constraints of the Polestar, so at the moment I don’t think I’ll be downsizing.

I’ve just rejected my MG4 Trophy EV after 9 months due to overly intrusive and as I and others see it borderline dangerous LKA and EBA. I’ve ordered a Smart #1 in metallic red with black roof a bit like this one except different wheels. Looking forward to it.

It does look better with the black roof - hides the weird (to my eyes) roof/window lines

Drove a polestar 2 recently, nice drive overall and to the most part like any decent auto. Disliked parking with the standard settings , the ice creeping mode is very handy for that.

Plenty of space and good ride over the Glasgow pot hopes, what’s not to like?

You can hire a Tesla or polestar from hertz for £30/40 per day a real bargain

Seen a couple of these now and think they look great. I’ve been a bit dismissive of getting an EV but I’m coming round to the idea now. These are too expensive for me at the moment but a used Polestar 2 for about 23-25k seems a decent buy.
