Small, as in postage stamp small...
It looks to be effectively smaller than a modern HUD typically delivers.
I don't think we can realistically claim that tiny screen alone is a suitable replacement for the traditional drivers layout of dials and info can we? It's more like a temp solution to give drivers 'something' in the sensible place for those that don't option the HUD.
The tiny screen just above the steering wheel isn't a driver information system. It's for the sensors that monitor the driver -->It looks to be effectively smaller than a modern HUD typically delivers.

"The Volvo EX30 has an advanced driver distraction detection system that includes special sensors that are operating with powerful algorithms which can detect eye and face movements.
The advanced system can monitor the driver as frequently as 13 times per second. The car is able to detect and alert the driver to be more attentive on the road even if the driver may not realise it themself."

I think it looks a lot better than the XC40
or XC60
Looks like they coated stuff with superglue and threw it at the dashboards.
Am I alone in loving the interior and dash on our XC40? The instrument binnacle gives you 99% of the information you need in a lovely, concise, well laid out manner. or XC60

The reality of the central screen is that you only really use it to adjust the climate settings, or to force battery charge/hold. How often are you fiddling with temperature, after all? I probably won't even touch it in an average journey.

It is clearly in the eye of the beholder! The reality of the central screen is that you only really use it to adjust the climate settings, or to force battery charge/hold. How often are you fiddling with temperature, after all? I probably won't even touch it in an average journey.
I quite like it: a decent screen (scroll music, big map, etc) but buttons for the important stuff. That is my preference over a plain blank screen any day of the week!

That said, we'd been considering a Model Y or Model 3 too, so this isn't a challenge unique to the ex30.

Nope, I had one of those cheap V90CC deals, and it was a lovely place to be, superbly well put together and very relaxing. The reality of the central screen is that you only really use it to adjust the climate settings, or to force battery charge/hold. I think Volve have (somehow) just got this one bang on. They've finally sorted out the previously dull and honestly quite tacky feeling interior of the previous cars.. And it's a small SUV but still an SUV, box ticked. It's fast, it's affordable, it comes from a storied marque people trust - even if it is now kinda Chinese, as if the average Volvo buyer will look that deeply into the ownership side of things.
They're obviously going to shift a huge number of these cars - it's the right product at the right time at the right price with the right brand. Job jobbed I reckon.
Yeah. That would be my summary too. They're obviously going to shift a huge number of these cars - it's the right product at the right time at the right price with the right brand. Job jobbed I reckon.

I'm definitely not thrilled about the idea of losing any sort of information in front of the driver. I'd need to try one to see what it's like in practice.

Prius drivers have been able to drive without information directly in front of the driver's eyes for so many years, so why should it be any different for people driving the EX30? That said, we'd been considering a Model Y or Model 3 too, so this isn't a challenge unique to the ex30.

I assume that small screen in front of the driver is for that?
I believe that tiny screen is some sort of eye / face monitoring device used as a safety feature rather than some sort of display. The photo on the Volvo website has a sensor:
Actually, the interior on the Volvo website doesn't look the same at all. That photo appears to be the EX90.

You actually get used to it very quickly, I've had a couple of Prius hire cars and you don't really have to think about it.I'm not a fan of the doors.
