This bit i'm not 100% sure on. If you use the OHME in 'dumb' mode, even if the car is not accepting charge cos its full or scheduled to start at a specific time, I believe you still get cheap rate.

Never actually tested it myself - but the ohme app seems to think it is adding charge even when the car isn't accepting it.

I used to have the opposite problem with the Ohme which is why I moved away from it. i.e. it would 'smart charge' the car but not seem to take instruction of any schedule from Octopus and then I would get charged full rate for it.

It's nice to know things have moved on and they are improving the integration.

In the screenshot above though, with the schedule shown directly in the Octopus app, this is how I currently receive notification of schedule by direct car integration (BMW/Mini) and certainly in that case Octopus only grant the off-peak rate if the car is actually charging in the allotted window.

I've had some pretty good ones in the past, where a journey in the afternoon/evening becomes cost negative because the extra battery depletion results in off-peak allocation which saves more than it costs.

It does apply to the whole house. Any extra hours offered always apply so long as there is an EV plugged in ready to accept charge - and there are always extra hours offered if needed.

14 hours is my record so far but very often it'll give me 10-12 depending on SoC

I think most people on plain Octopus Go look at intelligent and assume it's more hassle/complexity for the sake of two extra off peak hours a night - but in practice it's far more generous than that.

we tried to switch when we had iD3 with our Ohme charger but never managed to get a test charge to work. The App just kept saying uhh oh something went wrong. Octopus tried lots of stuff including me uninstalling about a gazillion times.

Now have a Volvo and it's not supported, although the Ohme is...i think.

Our biggest concerns the spikes in cost. 3 of us work from home and couldn't just stop if they went high; does it very often?

I think you might be thinking of agile or tracker which vary according to wholesale costs?

Intelligent is 'locked in' at set peak / off-peak rates which are guaranteed for 12 months.

I signed into mine end of August at 40p / 7.5p when it seemed like they could just keep going up and up, but new customers can still sign onto the same rates.

Yeah with car integration cheap rate would only apply when it was charging. However with the ohme in 'dumb' mode, I've read on other forums that it doesn't know when the car is charging so you do get cheap rate regardless. Guess I'm going to have to test it now to be sure!

Same for me which is why I've turned the smart charging off in the Octopus app and just let my Ohme charge between 11.30-05.30. Might turn it back on to see if it's improved if you do indeed also get cheap household electricity at times!

Day rate of IO now same as Flexible tarrif so really is a no brainer.

Changing between the two took a typically octopus 1 hr (all online)

I just received an email too. A nice touch.

So far so good with IO though. I've noticed it messes about with my car's iDrive charge timer settings but guess that's what it does.

It's worked faultlessly so far but for some reason the app keeps telling me that it can't control my vehicle, just after it's told me that it's set up the charge schedule. Who knows but it seems to be working fine.

I received a mail from Octopus yesterday saying that my Octopus Go Faster ends in August.
I reviewed the Intelligent Octopus but it says that it doesn't support my Ioniq 5 or my BP Pulse charger ?

I don't know how IO works but I've been on GO Faster for a couple of years now and before that Octopus Go with no problems.

Do you need an intelligent charger ?
Mine is very simple and I set all my charging schedules with the car and it's App.

No. it'll work with a granny charger (but with a compatible car), but both the Ioniq 5 and BP Pulse are listed as far as I can see.

Strange, I just called and asked about it and they told me that my car and charger are not compatible ?
When I selected my car and charger of their list on line, it also states not compatible yet.

They've just offered me the new Ocopus Go with 4 hours 12:30am to 04:30am @ 9.5p.
Looks like I need to try and find another supplier.

I assumed the list contained only compatible cars / chargers, but after testing a few combinations I think the Ioniq 5 isn't compatible, the BP Pulse is? Which should be enough to get you through.

Don't you just enter that you want it charged by (for example) 8:00am, and it will be?

That’s how it should work but sometimes it calculates the charging time slots incorrectly and then find in the morning that it did not reach the desired percentage.
