This is a bit random, but has anyone found the EQC attracts negative attention? I have a black one, I got called a wker first in it (for no reason, I was just sitting in traffic), 2nd numerous comments about it being “flash”, today I got followed for 3 miles by a police van and stopped for no reason. I know it was no reason because the policeman’s reason was “We have been stopping a lot of Mercedes drivers recently to advise them on the recent spate of thefts”. Well that doesn’t explain the thorough search of the car’s records and holding me for 15 mins then asking me if it was nicked!
It does explain it - if a lot of them get nicked locally then there's some sense in stopping a few and checking... that it hasn't been nicked. Annoying as that must be.

I don't know why it would attract negative attention though. It's not a particularly flash car, it's a c-class SUV. You normally have to get to the higher up levels of German SUV's before people automatically dislike you - the BMW X6 is the most effective choice if you wish to become unpopular for no particular reason. Or if you can afford it, a G class, which is the ultimate in terms of never ever getting waved out at a junction.. If you spend £200k on an SUV, you have to be punished by everyone that can't afford one for themselves. The slowest cars on the road are the fastest, most expensive, SUV's.

My TikTok did the trick and my nearest dealer not the supplying one called to offer a fix today.
They’ll change the tank, cap, bleed it and check for a leak at the rear motor.

Sad I had to revert to social media to get a response.

Indeed.

As MBUK are sitting on almost 300 used EQC's at the moment, with lots of pre-registered delivery/demo mileage examples that are depreciating by the day, you would think they'd want to avoid any bad press..

None in mine, I don't think it looks flash at all though it just looks like an outdated mid size SUV.

It's only really at night when it looks fancy imo with the front light bar on.

One thing for anyone looking at an EQC is that I have never known a car so geared towards 0-60.

If you put your foot down at 40/50mph + it seems to pull like it has 150-200bhp not 400!

I know all EVs drop off a bit as this is my third but its certainly been the worst of the bunch in that respect.

That may be a case of doing to others as they have done to you (paraphrasing a bit).
In my part of the world - a village in leafy Surrey - big, expensive SUVs are generally bottom of the table for driving behaviour, consideration and courtesy.

That's odd you mentioned that.
My friend has an EQC and lives in London. No issues. As soon as he heads outside of London (Herts, Beds) he notices a bit of negativity, especially people not letting him out.
He has had it three years and said compared to his old S class he thinks the quality is not as good, but is impressed with the speed and torque. He just got offered a BYD electric thing and he will get a £1000 bonus if he gets one. Apparently they ordered a load and no one wants them! He said he will give it a go!

For some reason theres a huge difference in acceleration feel between using comfort (default) and sport mode.

Comfort mode feels like they have limited the power significantly - I'm sure its not as crude as just limiting power (maybe they slow the rate at which the power is increased to the motors) , but it feels significantly softer than sport mode.

I always put it in sport mode when I drive it, otherwise it feels too slow at higher speeds, plus I prefer the steering feel in sport mode.

It's based on the GLC despite its price, so not surprising the quality isn't at £100k S Class levels in all fairness?

£1000 isn't a lot of money if he needs to commit for a number of years to a car no-one wants. <£30 a month..

I made the twice-annual trip to Goodwood from Aberdeen at the weekend and am still impressed by the way the car runs. It's pretty much 600 miles each way and I can do it in 4 charge stops which are pretty conveniently every 2.5hrs or so. Average speed was 58mph on way home yesterday with motorway speed at 80mph virtually all the way. No charging dramas thankfully but it did highlight the varying quality of the infrastructure and, in the case of BP and Ionity, the differing methods of access/payment to machines. Average consumption for the journey was 2.2m/kWh. That was on comfort mode with D Auto selected, interior at 19/20 degrees, 3 adults and luggage. Somehow managed to be into decent headwinds and heavy rain in both directions too!

Only minor issue was that a bloody boulder was thrown up by a car which cracked the windscreen. I've not suffered bad reflections in the car from the dash so hoping that won't change.

What are these like for space in the back?

It’s time for us to get rid of the Caravelle as our use profile of mainly short journeys is killing it, but I need something with enough space in the back for 3 young kids, (two of which are in car seats), for when we do the occasional road trip. Our other vehicle (eTron) just isn’t big enough. (Reverse tardis)

It'll be too small. Especially with car seats.

Thanks. I’ve heard the EQB is strangely larger across the middle row, plus it has the seats in the boot which offers extra flexibility.

we went and test drove one on Saturday last week at Mercedes stockport, we have bulky rear facing seats as we want to keep the kids rear facing for as long as possible. We squeezed the seats in and it was OK space-wise tbh, boot bigger than expected. I didnt like how small the drivers seat space felt (we also have a discovery sport) so we didnt go ahead with the deal.

I'd recommend going to try one and see how you get on, it might be ok

My Eqc has been doing my head in with the stupid niggles

22.11.23 delivered with faulty wipers and screenwash blockage and coolant light on

23.11.2023 coolant leak, MB roadside tops up and replaces cap. Screenwash unblocked

xx.02.2024 refuses to start, “12V battery malfunction” - hard reset of car solves error

01.03.2024, coolant light back on, noisy/creaking sunroof, faulty wipers still there. Diagnostics reveal coolant has emptied again, topped up, tank checked and secured, new cap. Sunroof seals replaced.

18.04.2024 Lane assist/radar fault, excessive steering wheel vibration at 60mph+ lane departure does not recognise lane changes, intermittent “stuck pedal” like there is a brick under the pedal, can’t brake past a certain point.
MB refuses any error, car is delivered back to me with all faults - communicated back to lease co who is very understanding.

They did not pay for the wipers to be replaced so I paid but escalated to MBUK for refund

23.04.2024 Lease co advises to be rebooked for second opinion
