DS240,

ACO membership does not guarantee you'll get a seat in the ACO tribune. I've been a member of the ACO and tried several times using the members' advance booking system and never made it. Luckily, I like La Sarthe tribune anyway and always get in there. Membership does get access to the bar, showers and loos in the ACO tribune however: you just need the illusive ticket to get into the seating area!

Yeah I know you have to be quick to get seats. I had the chance at 2 tickets this year, but needed 4.

You can get to a bar and showers (though not all of them) without the seat tickets.

The toilet and showers were busy and not much better than some of the 'public' ones.

The food and drink are also reasonable in price and quality in the ACO enclosures as is the free Internet access (you get unlimited one hour tokens)

I got in without a tribune ticket for a couple of hours around dawn which was magical... I saw the Wickers fire and Level 5 waving flags etc to get Scott Tucker to stop for fuel... and some very quick 'lappery' (the famous 'Happy Hour')

You must have been there same as me (sneaked in).

I love seeing through the night and first light. Though I was proper tired and so cold.

It is a good stand.

Well if the ACO can't get the best location for themselves who can?

Having never been to Le Mans before 2013 is the year. I'm looking at GE & camping tickets for 7 people.

Is ACO membership a worthwhile consideration? If so, how many of the group should join to maximise benefit?

Thanks

Only one has to join to maximise the benefit in your case.
The Passion VIP membership costs 102 euro, but gives you:
-up to 6 discounted entrance tickets (2012: 52 euro instead of 69) so 6 x 17 = 102! (break even point already there)
-up to 2 discounted campsite tickets (2012: Beausejour 41 instead of 51/Houx Annexe 54 instead of 60

Plus several other benefits:

therefore you will need to calculate a per person price based on all cost's including the membership otherwise you end up paying for membership and everyone else gets cheaper tickets, also you are allowed a card for yourself and partner(so for aco purposes you may have to be gay or one of your mates be very feminine) make sure you include two names on the aco membership application

Looking to take in some motor racing event(s) 2013 and never been to Le Mans. Quite like the sound of the PH site, though would be travelling from France so no Ferry required. Is this poss? Prob three or four adults, one maybe two cars. Any advantage in going the Aco route-apart from iffy showers etc (had plenty of experience of French toilet quality) and sleeping on tarmac!

Of course it's possible, you don't need to be an ACO member to enjoy yourself, just a bit cheaper. The facilities at most of the campsites are pretty good, hot showers, actual working toilets, etc.
Get over to Beermountain.com their Le Mans guide is brilliant for everything you need to know

I fly in from Australia & it's the easiest thing in the world to get to the best event in the world

Lots of people mention Beermountain on here, but each time I look I'm always quite surprised at how old the information is, some campsite reviews for example date from 2007 or 2010 also there are some missed out completely and the review seems to be 1 person's opinion only. I personally wouldn't agree with some of what is said, and certainly a lot of it is not up to date at all. Just my thoughts when I dip into the site.

the aco are a bit quick of the mark, just had my renewal notice asking for 102 euro's but my current one does not expire until the end of november, they must be suffering a cash flow problem

The race pace for 2012 turned up yesterday included a poster, two beer mats, two long window stickers,a programme and a results pack, however the attached letter invited me to attend the 2013 race on the 15th and 16th of june 2013, so someone in the ACO needs to sort out just when the race is actually being held.

I'd a card through my door yesterday saying there's a package for me at the post office, which I guessed would be the race pace (M instead of Mr, surname then first name etc - standard ACO fare). I'll collect tomorrow. Any word in your pack of when the tickets go on sale to ACO members?
