The diversion route from North is OK, small toll from A28/A29 jct to 1st Jct on A29. then it's Dual carriageway A151> A150 into Rouen crossing over the pont Gustave-Flaubert and pick up the Voie Rapide Sud N338 dual carriageway (with no traffic lights etc) to the A13. 1st jct is onto the old 138, now D438 if non toll, or pick up the A28 again for speed.

alternative is continue on A29 to Yvetot, round the ring road onto D131 > pont de Brotonne > D490 to Bourge Achard then choice is as above although you will pay a toll on A13 to do about less than a km to join the A28

Paris is a longer way and regardless of time is a Capital city so traffic problems can hit at any time.
I'll be returning home via Belgium ( Ypres ERC rally )the following w/e but will still go via Rouen then cross country after Amiens

I had a eurostar to catch on a sunday (when they have a final timed departure on sunday nights in the summer) and left plenty of time but it nearly wasnt enough, i guess they are used to gridlock and just accept it.

I drove this route on Thursday returning this evening, well signposted and although a little longer no traffic. Just hope it will be the same in June ?

Hmm we're doing the Newhaven to Dieppe crossing. Keeping a keen interest on this thread!

Thanks all.

I completely avoid the Rouen area...
From Calais come off the A28 and head West on the A29 to Yvetot. From there head South over the river bridge (the first one to the West of Rouen) to Bourg Achard where you can either rejoin the A28 or go across country. Adds on a little bit to the journey but is a more pleasant and traffic free route than the slog through Rouen wink
I used this route at the weekend, it probably does not save you much time, but is much prettier than Rouen. Especially if you are in an open top car in decent weather.

Good call!

That route shouldn't be effected, I think. It goes over a different bridge, but the divereted traffic will be going the same way.

I'm doing the same trip myself this year, its a nice easy route. On the monday we normally head back taking the old route and avoiding the tolls to Rouen. With the boat not leaving till late, it allows for a steady drive to Dieppe and some food once we get there with hours to spare.

Surely one of the Le Mans road trip highlights is getting lost in Rouen and seeing a new part of it every year. This justs adds to the fun

No it is not only you, we always used to get lost in Rouen - usually ended up near the railway marshalling area.

Tend to go for the longer ferry routes these days.

Yer, I found it on google, I also found something on google saying it should all be open by the end of April? I wonder if thats out of date now?
Not a prayer! The accident, which occurred on 29/10/12 (so already four months back) has required a team of architects to study the damage and it has been decided that the span needs to be replaced at a cost of €8 million. The work will not start until June this year and will span not only this year's Le Mans but also that of 2014, the estimated time to complete the work being 55 weeks, but that of course will probably get stretched as things are found. So you'll be clean and green for 2015.

I hate Rouen, having been lost there several times.

The bad news for those going that way is this, from the Pont Mathilde website: (Google translated)

Planning the rehabilitation (objective)
Standing Committee February 11, 2013
Launch of the consultation: March 1, 2013
Choice of business: June 2013
Graduation execution: Summer 2013
Start of work : September 2013
Removing the bay: Fall 2013
Based on span: Winter 2014
Finishing: Spring 2014
Restarting the bridge : summer 2014

Ok. My brother has just come back from Spain via Rouen
There are diversions in place to avoid the closed bridge
The diversions take you on a detour on 2 of the motorways around Rouen
These are toll roads but its a minimal toll of about 1 euro each
And added no more than 10 minutes to the journey time

That's not too bad really.

We've driven through Rouen 10+ times on the way to Le Mans and always go through the tunnel and past the railway yards both there and back. We found it's the most direct way north - south.
