Any early birds setting off for Le-Mans Mon-Wed next week? feedback on here regarding the traffic congestion around Rouen would be apprecated.
I gather the fire damaged bridge rebuilding is still in progress and will be for some considerable time.

...or the parallel A-road just to the west of the A28 and onto the Voie Rapide through the city. Looking at the map it looks almost a better route than the 'normal' one.

Going Monday via Yvetot (that's the plan anyway) will report back - if I do forget, feel free to drop me a PM to remind me.

Unfortunately all the locals will be taking that and from what has already been posted it is best avoided, but I am sure you will get there in the end

Is this the A29-A151-150 route that's been mentioned elsewhere ?

I gather there are road works in Rouen currently. Does anyone know if this means the normal (i.e. sat nav friendly!) route will be impassable or just a bit bunged up?

Despite a reasonable sense of direction I always seem to get lost in Rouen en route to Le Mans, it's just a knack.

AGREE! I found a recommendation to use that route on another forum. Apparently it flows nicely, has less traffic lights to deal with and is only marginally longer. Our group will be taking this route.

Any thing that goes through or close to rouen will be a problem, it was bad enough for those going to the test day, so increase the congestion by quite a bit and then add a few thousand lost brits causing even more chaos

Got a route planned close to Rouen and will be testing it in motorhome about 11pm Monday night but the real test will be when my mates try the same route midday on Tuesday. Will try to update how we get on with it once we know its possible / worth taking. Good luck Rouen later in the week. Spent hours sitting alongside the railway sidings in previous years when bridge wasn't knackered so god knows what that area will be like this year!

As you may have seen in the "Au Revoir, See You In Le Mans" thread we have driven down through France today.

There were no real issues with traffic; we avoided Rouen by using the route posted further up this thread - follow this link http://goo.gl/maps/CaELu it's pretty straight forward and costs €4.30 in tolls (€2.80 & €1.50). One thing I would suggest is that when coming off the autoroute (A28 Junction 9 - Yvetot) would be to set your sat nav (if you are using one that is) to head for Bourg-Achard, once you are nearby then you will start to pick up signs for Le Mans. I highly recommend this route as my brother who I drove down with suffered the diversion in Rouen twice a few weeks ago and stated that we definitely aren't going through there to LM.

Some good advice on this thread for alternative routes around Rouen - looks tempting - does anyone have a comparable routemap of the "official" diversion route if we were to just follow the diversion roadsigns (assuming they are there of course!)?

We are travelling down on Wednesday - should hit Rouen around 2PM so not expecting huge traffic at that time, coming home on Monday will be a different story though!

The 'official' diversion for those coming from afar is the A29-A151-A150-N338 route mentioned above.

For those already in the city you have to exit the A28 just before the broken bridge and drive one way or the other along the river bank until the next bridge.

Hmmmmm, I wonder what it will be like around 05:30 am if you just carry on and use the normal route through the Tunnel?

Many thanks, There does not seem to be too much in it between the official route and the more westerly route via Yvetot. I will be travelling down in a >6m 'Bago which is not the most nimble - would we be better off staying way from the D roads from Yvetot to Bourg-Achard and stick to the A/N road official route ?

Team Citrus are travelling down on Thursday and usually stop at the Shell Service Station near Bosgouet just after Rouen for a bite to eat and some great car spotting. We are planning on taking the diversion to Yvetot and then Bourg Achard, but does anyone know of a good place to stop to do the same somewhere around there? I'm guessing our usual pit stop won't be as popular if lots of people take the detour????

Are there any other potential downsides to the Yvetot/Bourg-Achard route? Looks fairly straightforward, but I would imagine brushing up on the local speed limits might be a good idea. I can imagine a D-road will have gendarmes leaping out from every hedge.
