2005/6 again ?
The problem is that 'Summer',in the case of recent years in Northern Europe at least, probably means a few good days at a time when the jet stream and wind is blowing in the right direction totalling less than around 3 weeks worth randomly spread across the so called 'summer' months.Usually ending after a few good days with a cold front moving in from the north west followed by,what the global warming believers on BBC weather propaganda service, usually describe as 'cooler fresher' weather but which in reality translates as cold and often wet.In which case trying to hit the right weather at Le Mans in June in recent years is like trying to win the lottery.

As for this year the GT meeting at Misano in mid Italy in May is forecast to be what looks like a washout with mid/high teens temperatures at best so I wouldn't bet on a warm dry Le Mans in June.

Rains every year at some point. 2005/2006 were the last mega hot Le Mans I can remember.

Two things.

Kiters42, any update on the puss ?

Also, I was in Tenerife yesterday and at a bar chatting to a guy who is a very keen Meteorologist. He was trying to explain things to me about weather which went over my head but the bottom line is according to him, western Europe will go down hill a bit for the next two weeks but will pick up around the 5th June hitting a high by 12th June, the very day we set off....

Not yet did put a tent up this weekend but tis a new one for weekend camping and found a rip in it took it down again to send back. The ground hog (cat) day will take place next weekend with the Le Mans tent there will be much ceremony (barbecue/beer) and I will post the result ASAP.

So as per previous years cat enters tent for a nose around from the front then hot hot hot if from the rear then wet wet wet.

So fingers (paws) crossed for the hot weekend prediction wink

Every year since I've been going (10) the weather at LMS mirrors the weather in S.E.England. MOTO GP weather Le Mans same as Kent, 24 Hrs will be the same...

It's more a case that the South and South East of England get the remnants of any of the good summer weather that can often build up not far south of the northern French coast.

Usually that region of France's weather can,or at least should be,expected to be better than here during the Summer months and certainly hotter with it being far more likely to get hot air moving in from Spain and Southern France than it is for that weather to make it here across the channel.Which is one of the reasons why the Pays de Le Loire is a better wine growing area than South East England.

Anyone who was there during the 2010 Classic would be able to confirm that we don't get the same type of high 30's-40 + degree C temperatures here. But those few miles further south, combined with continental type summer temperatures during the day, often make all the difference in making that type of heat nothing unusual at Le Mans .In just the same way that it can be warm in the south east here before crossing the channel in July for example but it can be (a lot ) hotter by the time you get to Reims let alone further south into Switzerland and Italy with a far bigger difference between shade and sunshine temperatures.Which again is why Reims is known for making better Champagne than Kent or Surrey etc.

The weather at Le Mans is really just a reflection of and all about how good the european conintental summer is which is entirely different to ours.We only usually only get the left overs of whatever they get if we're lucky.

Less of the long words, and just answer the question - is it going to be warm or not? smile

Let's just say that the odds are probably more along the lines of another bad wine ( and Le Mans ) year. While the EU and the LabLibDemCon will probably continue to blame the colder and wetter than average european summer weather on global warming.Hopefully it might be hot and dry for the classic depending on wether it warms up and settles down further south in July.

Both Le Mans classic the year before last and the Misano GT event 10 days ago at least thereby saving the hotel costs, ferry fare and running money.Although to be fair that was more based on weather forecasts in the media together with a lot of personal cynicism and scepticism regarding recent continental Summer weather.Which seems to be more biased towards low pressure and cold northerly airflows and insufficient heat build up to what would normally be expected in Southern Europe during Spring and early Summer.

As a comparison I can remember a run to Enna in Sicily in May where my the soles of my shoes were sticking to the metal deck of the Messina ferry in around 30 + degrees shade temperatures and that was well before midday.Whereas the temperature there for tomorrow is forecast to be 21 C in the morning and 25 C midday or what you'd expect here on a reasonable late May day.

Bloody hell, XJF - you should be a politician. If you've answered the question I'm not aware of it..

So, is it going to be
A: Lush
B: Manky

Second question (from poster above) - From past form, are you:
1: Perfectly accurate
2: Mainly blagging it

Any answers that segue into a conversation about holidays will be met with a roll eyes smiley.

I can only say 'if' I was going to the 24 hrs I'd be hopeful but doubtful then it can only be better especially if things warm up further south in the next few weeks.Which just leaves the question of the classic in July which I'm planning to go to as every previous except last.Which I'm viewing the same weatherwise as the 24 hours but with the better odds provided by the later date.As for questions 1 and 2 above the same applies an educated guess looking on the pessimistic side going by how things stand at present but who knows.

Yup 2005 was my first year, hit about 40 I think? 2006 was good too. Never had anything up there to those levels since.
