I will be staying near Perpignan in June, around the time of 24hr Le Mans (a total coincidence as i keep telling the wife!). I want to head up to Le Mans on friday and return on sunday evening and i will have two of my kids with me (ages 6 & 8). I have been looking at the different travel options and driving seems to be the only viable option as train/flights are over €400 and i am on a fairly tight budget. I have a tent with me so i was going to book into one of the campsites at the track.
I have never been to Le Mans am unfamiliar with the set up so i would be grateful for any advice anyone might have in particular in relation to the following:
Are the campsites suitable for kids?
Are grandstands seats essential to get a proper view of the racing/viewing screens?
If i am arriving to a campsite on friday afternoon/evening is traffic very heavy getting to the circuit?

Thanks

The campsites are suitable for kids but make sure that your book a campsite that suits your needs, i.e. with shower facilities.
Friday night will be busy but if you get a campsite with a reserved plot then you should be fine.
Grandstand view is not essential at all, you can get some great spots all round the circuit and i personally have never felt the need to have grandstand seating.

Have a look at a few of the operators that can sell you a camping plot, such as tickets2u etc, it's a bit late to get one of the better sites but i'm sure they will have something available. Also beermountain.com have a section on their site where they reviewed most of the campsites, not sure when it was last updated but it helps know what each site is like in terms of whether you stand a chance of getting any sleep!

Chapeau sir beer.....around 8 hrs+, 50-60 Euros tolls each way plus fuel.
With 2 in tow, maybe look at campsites away from circuit?
Few munis south within 30 mins of Mulsanne/Carnage,...... le lude, vaas, mansigne of top of head.
Spend Sat at circuit, Sunday at south of circuit for easy getaway?

Just a couple of thoughts. If you've not been to Le Mans before have a look at a couple of websites devoted to LM; Club Arnage, and also Beermountain.

Agreed, grandstand seats are not essential.

Ear defenders for your ankle snappers.

Friday can be a bit lively on the roads round the circuit - be aware of this.

Apologies if all the above is old hat / common sense to you - I hope you have a great time.

we have stayed at this site many times, about an hour south of track , has pool, restaurant and bar, lots for kids to do, easy access to n138 .
less traffic going to and from circuit,
camping plots are a good size, good clean shower toilet blocks.

I took my son when he was 8 and camped on Bleu Nord, I had no problems, Just make sure you keep them by your side the whole time, Saturday and Sunday is very very busy, and you can loose them in an instant if your not careful, even on the campsite I wouldn't want them wandering off your pitch.
Try plan where you view the race that its near some toilet facilities, because frankly there isn't too many, and a bit of forward planning wont see you spending half your time looking for somewhere to relieve your kids.
