I think everyone is presuming this will be the official announcement of the Nissan P1 effort. Hopefully it will at least look like a proper car.

14:00 UK time.

Well it'll have to conform to the regs so will be LMP1-esq, but the really interesting thing will be who (if anybody) they have joined with to build/run the thing. RML? OAK? DPR?

It's about time and does show good commitment to the category, I think.

AAR maybe?

Although these lights look more GTE than LMP.

Could be, although wasn't there eventually some bad blood/legal posturing between AAR and Ben Bowlby/Nissan over the Deltawing/ZEOD design? Saying that, it might have been Panoz. (upon checking, yep, Panoz vs Nissan).

Would it serve their interests to go GTE, especially now that the combined regs have been ditched? I certainly hope they go P1 over GTE

Believe me, I think this is the car that will go down in the annals of time and be one of those cars which will be long remembered, not only for the fact that it will have won Le Mans but also that it reset the real meaning of NISMO as a link between success on the track and success on the road.
They're a confident lot eh?

This will come back and haunt them and bite them for a long long time if the car doesn't deliver....

Brave maybe, but I think they've been building very carefully for quite some years, the level of marketing alone going back more than a couple of years has been significant and growing. Look at the number of engines across the board, was it 16 supplied last year (may have been more), I certainly don't think it's half-baked...

Well we all knew it was coming but lots in there to read, loved the bit that said le mans is the biggest race in the world, and it seems that they will not be the last manufacturer to head for the WEC

Cool.

I'll really start to look forwards to 2015 because of this, once 2014 is over. IMO they've miss-timed the announcement though - they should have announced after LM2014, not before.

Why divert attention away from ZEOD? I realise seeing everyone talk about the big battle between Audi / Toyota / Porsche must annoy them, but they've not really stopped that. An announcement after the race would have got the column inches swinging their way - for now all most of us are bothered about is who reigns supreme in 2014..

Wasnt the Garage 56 entry on the assurance that they would be entering a LMP1 car? Guess thats why the announcement was made before the race to prevent questions about it before they announced it.

Very specific reason that May 23 was they date they announced. '2' in Japanese is pronounced 'Ni' and 3 is pronounced 'San'. There's also something about the meaning of 'May' but I was doing other stuff during that bit of the announcement.

Plus, it's been effectively known since December last year.

May translates to 'Go'

So 'Go Nissan'

Can they be the "bad boys" by announcing themselves as that? And what does it mean? Presume Peugeot still hold the title from the dirty tactics race

Excellent news, the prospect of four major manufacturers battling for LMP1 honours next year is really something to look forward to!

Not sure what this comment is all about though!
