Scaf, you'll need wellies and a brolly. I'd advise something in between also, but that's your call.

My observations from this year.... Some people made a real effort to get into the old 50s / 60s spirit. 95% did not.

Trouble with le mans is its a dirty, dusty place when the sun shines its bloody hot, then when it rains the place becomes a sandy mud bath. it is NOT like the Goodwood Revival and not good for ladies in high heels and dresses or Gentleman in leather shoes. Even walking from the lower tribunes to the pre grid porsche hospitality tents the ground was a field of pot holes full of water and mud. and the upper village near the Dunlop bridge was a sandy mud bath frown

When that Sun came out I was glad I had some shorts to change into as the Black Chinos were getting a tad warm!

The Classic British welcome at St Saturnin during the 24 hr le mans has a much better feel. IMO

My dad and I made an effort on the Friday morning when we walked around the Paddock but it soon became evident that we were in the minority (and by minority I mean 10-15% who were dressed in shirt, smart trousers etc) and couple with the intense heat we beat a retreat back to camp and swapped our attire for shorts and a short sleeved top. For the remainder of the time that I spent in the paddock I saw very few people adhering to the 'dress code'. Personally, I don't think it's needed. It's not Goodwood, nor will it ever be Goodwood. It is more akin to the Silverstone Classic which is very informal.

We made an effort for the Friday too and it was fairly hot. For the short time we were there on Saturday we just made sure we were waterproof so linen was out. We gave up TBH and with a heavy heart headed south.

Thought I'd better follow this up, being the one who started the thread smile

I agree with the recent posters; perhaps 5-10% made an effort. The rest were casual, though not particularly "loutish". I.e. I saw few, if any, football tops/topless blokes etc.
