I've heard that a container ship of cooking oil caught fire under the bridge and took it out. Heading to Rouen on Tues on the way back - is there a diversion?

There's a number of routes - look through this thread - it details most of them....

Straight through centre of Rouen both ways, quickest it has ever been, no problems at all

Centre on the way down, A151 detour on the way back.

To be honest - minimal delays through Rouen - not sure the detour really saved time but it is fast flowing.

We went via Yvetot/Pont de Brotonne both going down & coming back - fine both times.

If we'd been 1 or 2 cars we'd have probably gone through Rouen as it's usually quicker IME; we had several cars so this way made more sense.

Friends I was with just wanted a fast route to the Hotel which meant Motorway, I figured out a route to take us along the river bank to the east of Rouen at the trouble spot, trouble was my planed exit route was closed so we ended up in a lot of diversion traffic frown The signage was rubbish frown Just hate the bloody place, they really do need to make a Motorway down to Le mans avoiding the place. Had Issues getting back through the place too with my sat nav still telling me to use the Closed Bridge and telling me to turn back at every opportunity frown Then for more fun they decided to do some road re-surfacing and restrict the speed through the tunnel frown Just a PIA.

Note to self: Stick with my usual roads and avoid the tolls!

We went via Les Andelys on the way down avoiding all tolls which worked well with no delays. On way back went via Yvetot which was clear and saved us masses of time.

We used the Diversion for the 24hrs and it was fine (Tuesday).

Went Yvetot this time, on the way down and it was fairly quick and painless (Friday), to be honest it felt quicker than when we usually go through Rouen.

Of course the tunnel is a must if you've got an interesting car and its open.. Which it should be from August.

Went via Yvetot on the way, and through Rouen on the way back. Didn't have any issues either time (exept my TomTom saying "stay in the right lane" in the middle of Rouen, when it meant "stay in the left lane". The Dutch guy behind me did the same thing and we had a laugh about it at the next set of lights

No we didn't, we did the A150/A151 route.

That route was well signposted so I can't see how anyone could have got lost (unless they didn't bother looking for signs)

Rouen is as close to hell as possible for trying to navigate through. The hotel is in the centre and with all the contra flows and diversions and general rebuilding getting to the carpark ( 200m at most) took 25 mins.....

Gents,
Thanks to everyone who posted on this thread, we've just returned from a long weekend in Normandy, got stuck in nightmare traffic in Rouen on the way down as my resident buddy said the bridge had reopened, he lied!

Went via Yvetot on the way back & it was a pleasure, not just traffic free but revisiting the types of roads that trips to France used to be all about!

I'm going to use that route every time from now on.

Going with my mate from Holland we avoided Rouen by going to Paris... nightmare as there two big accidents and two sections closed for road repairs...
Going home with my English friends we missed a turn near Rouen and was a bit stuck as we didn't have a map or gps but got back on track and sailed through Rouen on what road I don't know but we wasted 5 minutes in a jam..

Just retraced our movements:
D6015/D7 to A150 to A151 to A29 and then straight up to Calais - as I said worked a treat

There are several bridges over the river in Rouen, used the central route for the test day, the 24 hour and the classic, on some trips through rouen it was faster than when the bridge was open.

Well I think that we all know many different ways around or through and most are much more interesting than the route using this bridge, so some good has come from the fire
