I am hoping to take my 15yr old son to Le Mans next year (the first time for him). I've camped previously with mates at Maison Blanche (the last two trips) and before that always at Beau Sejour. The latter I would probably try and avoid but are there any other recommendations which might be suited to a slightly less boisterous camping location (given I’ll have parental responsibilities).

Cheers

FWIW I think all the on-circuit sites are much of a muchness when it comes to rowdy behaviour.

Obviously one man's "just having a good time" is another man's "being downright anti-social", so it depends on how much of an issue it is to you. For a first timer, camping on circuit is the only way to go, to get the full flavour experience although if the anti-social element is of concern and you fancy a few luxuries for considerably less money than you would normally pay, then consider camping off-circuit. Loads of choice you just have time your visits to the circuit to avoid the rush.

Was my first Le Mans this year and we camped at Beausejour, however we went to the back left amongst the pine trees and it could not have been quieter.

I've camped with my son in Houx before, generally not too bad.

Private camping out of the question? That's a lot more covilized, but does cost a bit more.

First thing, are you going off site camping or on track?

Price comes into play as well, on site Security route you take to LeMans it all adds up.

I paid last year £245 per person with food very happy with that at the campsite.

It was my first time camping off site, before camped on site but things at certain sites have got OTT.

There was a free mini bus to the track anyway. Nice clean and safe campsite and we were safe as was my car.

Thanks for the replies.

Staying at the circuit would be my preference as the car noise/atmosphere etc is something i think would add to the trip for him - it's just about finding the balance between that and being stuck next to a bunch of wallopers on a campsite. MB has been fairly good the last couple of trips - it's location in particular is very appealing...

The onsite campsites are all reasonably safe but as you say some are more party sites and others are open to anyone wandering around, best for you to look at the descriptions on beermountain and decide, the sites vary in levels of security but the safest sites are hard to obtain and on ebay etc will often cost more than the off site private sites

I agree that most of the on-circuit campsites are pretty similar as far as behaviour goes. It is down to personal experience which one you prefer. I've always enjoyed Tertre Rouge and not had any problems with "noisy neighbours", but I have seen other people have different experiences. Same goes for Maison Blanche; I know lots of people swear by that one, but my mates had lots of things stolen from there 2 years ago & will never go back.

If your budget stretches that far then perhaps I would look at one of the private sites at the circuit. You get security and cleaner showers and toilets there. If you can get one trackside then all the better!

If you are an ACO member, have a look at Chateau du Houx Club. I stayed here for 2014, it's quiet, secure, very family friendly & close to the village & tram.

I would recommend Airtrack village (booked via Thomas Cook). Whilst more expensive, it is very civilised and has full facilities. Our pitch was next to someone who had brought his kids and they seemed to have a great time (i'm guessing they were 10 years plus).

Showers, toilets, security, restaurant, bar with bands playing, big screen TVs etc. You get all sorts there, from young to old - everyone is having fun but there are no crazy antics.

It is located within the circuit and has it's own perimeter fence. It is not part of any of the main campsites, so will not appear on the circuit maps (it is just past Houx Annexe) You also get a private road through the gates to Airtrack, so it is pretty easy to get in and out.

We've just booked again for 2015 smile
