Thats bad, I have used this crossing for the past few years. Maybe P&O will put up the price to Caen even higher now!

You mean Brittany Ferries? Unless P and O are operating under the radar. We're already booked Portsmouth to Caen, costs not that different to this year. Best get in quick if you're thinking of using this route.

Brittany Ferries have been running a boat alongside LD Lines (or DFDS if you prefer) most of this year. They leased one of the LD boats. Didn't know that LD were packing it in though. Their ferry to Spain is also not running I see so I wonder if they are in difficulties, as were Sea France.

ETA: rang client services and got a very cagey reply about the future of the service. I asked if I could book for February and again no concrete reply. So I asked when the service was ending and sure enough it is 31/12/14.
