We couldn't make it to Le Mans this year so decided to try the Spa 24 Hour event instead.

Frankly it was an excellent even, and a worthy alternative to Le Mans if you're stuck for next year. I've never been to Spa before and it more than lived up to my high expectations.

Anyway, I finally got round to putting a short video together from our trip if anyone fancies a gander:

Feedback welcome and appreciated smile

Great video Kev. Gives a good feel for the event. Not just the race.
Looks like you camped behind the racing hotel. Not sure I would do that again (facilities are awful).
Better to camp at Eau Rouge or Spa D'Or with proper facilities.

One question. How did you know what was happening on track? Who was winning & stuff.
The announcements sounded all in French or Belgian. I speak neither.

Perhaps do the Nurburgring 24 next?

The campsite was "adequate", and run by an amusingly arrogant bloke who provided us with much entertainment. It was cheap too, so the facilities were probably acceptable for the price.

That said, I'm not a fussy camper. As long as there's flat, dry ground, a clean water tap and some reasonably clean toilets I'm happy. smile

We would probably try somewhere else I think though. It was our first trip to Spa so we thought we'd just go with whatever we could get then suss it out for next time.

As for keeping track of what was on track - we didn't really. At one point I had to text my mate (in the UK) to find out why there hadn't been any racing for so long. We could just see the big accidents at the top of Eau Rouge but didn't know the severity until I got home and watched the highlights.

Thanks for this, a great little video that's rekindled good memories of the event. We were camped 'over the road' from you in an equally basic but adequate site, surrounded by crazy Germans and Dutch, good fun..! As said, it was nigh on impossible to follow the racing at the track, but this didn't detract from a fantastic weekend at all. Will definitely be back next year, I simply love going to Spa!
Must get around to doing my videos now, thanks for the inspiration.

Great vid fella!

The night time DJ sets looked like a hoot and the whole thing certainly seems less corporate than Le Mans - really tempted by Spa24 now if I can get the right group together...
