Front engines? Anyone got the inside knowledge?

http://blackflag.jalopnik.com/exclusive-this-is-ni...

Not sure where else to post these types of things so sorry if I'm spamming the page with this stuff but I love the speculation! Ugly though!

They seem to be presenting as fact what Mulsanne Corner presented as a discussion piece.

What a dreadful website, at least on my phone. I'll await for a better source to read from!

Yes it's a dreadful website but it's hard to find a better source.

The differences and detail that guy can find between 2 photos when all I see at first glance is a different paint scheme is amazing.

If you have a read of the (currently not linked correctly) Dec/Jan posts on the Nissan LMP1 he details both how it could work as a front-engine LMP1, something we haven't seen since Panoz and the fact they have taken a radical, though different approach inspired by the Deltawing. Conventional logic says rear engine/big rear wing, which is basically what everyone's been copying since the the Cooper T51 hit the track in the late '50s. A big rear wing means big drag on 2/3 of the CdS though and only needs to be big as downforce has to balance weight and that rear engine puts big weight at the back. Move the engine to the front/middle and you can lose some, maybe all of that rear wing and it's 8% of total drag.

Will it work, maybe. Will it upset the ACO, certainly if the sorts of top speeds down the N138 (as it will always be for me)/across the D140 that are being rumored are true!

I guess it's the same sort of situation/extended thinking that resulted in the multitude of 'it won't turn' comments on forums about the Deltawing. Clever bugger that Bowlby and you'd think they'd be pretty sure of things before getting to this stage of the project.

A little bit of revolution every now and again is a good thing. (I do think those renders are a bit fugly though, revolution up to a point and all that wink )

Does anyone care? Is the Nissan being built to try and win the WEC or just Le Mans..?

An American game called football where men dress up in armour and run around throwing a rugby ball to each other. Or a piece of pottery that Tim Wonnacott really likes.

Still seems an odd place. So I take that it would it be a tv ad then? I have visions of it being rolled out onto the pitch which is absurd

Isn't the superbowl the most brilliant place to launch an LMP?

The traditional "50 car geeks at a factory" won't bring nearly as many potential new fans and customers to L M. Exposure like this can only be a good thing - if more people know and care about the worlds greatest race, more manufacturers will have to be there. Do you think SRT would have lost their funding for the vipers if 40m americans were watching?
