Nice of Nissan to arrange a small event around the new car launch!

Anyone staying up to watch?

No rear wing. Loving it, hope most of MulsanneMike's predictions turn out to be accurate (erll, except the report that KERS isn't working).

We already have 3 radically different approaches to power amazingly close to each other. A radically different approach to packaging and drivetrain would just be awesome=)

I know it isn't the PH way, but different is good.

might be something worth listening to as much as watching...can't wait to see it in the flesh. Will this be at Silverstone for the WEC season kick off?

That link is a Nissan press release....

Nissan themselves said:
In a bold move, the Japanese manufacturer has interpreted the sport’s technical regulations in an innovative way, producing a front-engined, front wheel drive car that is powered by a V6 3-litre twin turbo petrol engine and a kinetic energy recovery system.
Well that's slipped in under the radar....

On the one hand I like Nismo/Darren Cox because they do interesting things in motorsport, on the other, I hate their PR BS.

"We looked at a blank sheet of paper and the best solution is the engine you see downstairs, a V6 twin turbo, four-wheel-drive, with the engine in the front. It must be a GT-R then. That's just a marketing job made easy. We've got one of them, we'll just call it that. If it was a diesel engine in the back we couldn't have called it a GT-R, could we? That's why we ended up where we are."

It's FWD! So innovative and crazy! It's AWD, just like the GT-R!... Schrodinger's drive train - it's anything until they decide which bit of marketing spin suits them better.

"We don't want to be like the other manufacturers who are guarded, who keep everything under wraps and only tell you what they want to know,"

What's the hybrid system? "We won't tell you, we don't want you to know."
What's the power output? "We won't tell you, we don't want you to know."
What MJ class is it in? "We won't tell you, we don't want you to know."
Who's driving it? "We won't tell you, we don't want you to know."
Yeah, the headline of FWD does seem a bit misleading having read another article.

AWD appears to be the actual set up.

Bloody hell, you lot are a harsh crowd!

In the normal sense, it's front wheel drive. There is no connection between the proper engine and the rear wheels.
The (front mounted) KERS flybrid system powers the rear wheels via a driveshaft, and then conventional rear diff / unconventional drop gears in the hubs. It was designed to give total system output of 2,000 BHP (so KERS of 1500 ish?) - but they've not got it working yet. This is probably why they're not giving details of the hybrid power 0- the current answer is "much less than we wanted".
Since it's not working, they can't commit to being in the 8mJ class (although they are working towards being there). This is just like Porsche in 2014 - who wanted 8mJ, but couldn't get it working reliably at that level and ended up in the 6 mJ class. Call it BS if you will, but stating "TBC" is more PR friendly than calling it 1 way and then changing your mind late in development.

Re. drivers, could it be that they simply haven't got it all together yet? From stuff I've read, they need a very select group of good drivers who have short legs (due to the car's shape). They also seem to want to bring some of their Academy boys all the way to P1 - but some maybe haven't proven themselves yet?

..Anyways - before I get called an utter fanboy, I must admit I like what they're doing. I have no love for the Nissan marque as such, but think it's great that people are bringing different to Le Mans. Even if it is butt ugly =)

LMP1 does run BoP which helps to close the differences.

They're certainly planning to be - as are Toyota I believe. I've read that toyota are right on the limit of supercapacator tech to get to 8MJ, and Porsche had constant issues getting the full 6 last year - so work to be done there too..
IMO it's part of the interest in the sport though, all this speculation / techie stuff is great fun =)
