Arnage was very quiet on Friday, well compared to what I've been used too in years gone by!
Distinct lack of special metal as well, a few years ago every other car was of note, not anymore.
The stag night, mob element have put paid to that I'm guessing. Real shame!
Indeed. We hiked down for dinner and found it much quieter than usual on Friday night.

Friday antics alongside Bleu Sud were much more sedate than recent years too - I'm not saying there wasn't any lunacy, but it was far less than previous years... perhaps because all the goons ended up at BSJ.

I have to say I struggle to find adjectives sufficiently negative/damning for the sort of cock socket that gets involved on the Friday evening at BSJ - we tend to go and hide in town and just get our heads down on the walk and travers the r'bout as quickly as possible on the way back to speedchills.

So quiet in fact, that after walking all the way there thinking I wouldn't find anywhere to park and would be stuck in traffic, it would have been easier to have gone in the car!

I arrived in the GT3 around 6.30pm Friday and had to go past the crowd at MB and the one before the roundabout at BSJ (assuming that is Beausejour? Loads of police at the roundabout so the crowd was near the bridge under the track).

It was a bit intimidating, I was glad there was a seasoned attendee in the passenger seat to warn me of what was coming. No-one touched the car, just some water from a water gun. Maybe giving the car a few revs helped, along with the police just up the road.

It didn't strike me as a UK crowd. I got told the BSJ roundabout was pretty mad around midnight.

We went to the Classic in 2012 and it was exactly how Le Mans used to be 15 years ago. Lots of nice cars, lots of civilised people of all ages and all walks of life having a laugh together.
Exactly. Which is why I only go to the Classic these days.

It was ok but personally it just got ruined by the pissed up Brits that thought they should be in charge.

Poor bloke tried to stop someone from opening his door, hand his hand on the top of the door and the bloke let go and he smashed his fingers as he was still pulling it to try and close it.

Old french couple driving down minding their own business, couple of piss heads open her door and she holds onto it to try and stop them (she wasn't wearing her seat belt) and they were obviously stronger so she fell out of her car and she couldn't get up. Luckily some nice lads helped her but she looked terrified.

That was when it all got stupid so we just went for a walk elsewhere.

I confess I have never been, but I don't understand why this sort of bull st can't be policed away? Do the police turn a blind eye to it, not enough manpower, or what? Put half a dozen plain clothes guys in with the crowd, identify the lead cock sockets to their uniform counterparts who roll up in 2 or 3 (or 50) vans to cart them away.

These tales beggar belief. Truly depressing. We all accept that people depressingly behave like this at low end resorts but it is genuinely baffling to see it appearing so manifestly at a sporting event.

The worst thing when I saw this sort of behaviour appearing was that they weren't chavs but supposed well educated, well brought up professionals.

I will never understand those people who have no personal control when in a herd.

Saw that. Opening doors is a bit much. Guys in a yellow van and caravan got angry and tried to drive into loads of people so it seems an accident waiting to happen.
Out of the thousands who attend it is a small minority that do this.

But don't let it put you off attending a great event. You have to remember that there are thousands camping overall and this is a small minority.

As someone else said, some years it's bad, some it's not so bad. But if you plan on driving, get it done before lunch and then enjoy other stuff. This happens every year and we have the same threads every year. It's up to you to avoid...

I also saw an F40. Clearly mis-timed his drive but what.were.you.thinking. luckily nothing happened.

Made sure we were back on the site (Houx) by early afternoon - some people were starting to line the road on the approach from Houx Annexe roundabout (where the tram stop is) and Houx, but not too silly at that stage. Just a bit dim, given they were expecting an automatic car with 4 blokes to do a burnout...

So, it can be avoided, but I agree it shouldn't really need to be...

We went on the Thursday last year to avoid all the Friday antics and once the cars were parked they didn't move again till Monday. Next year as we are taking bigger cars we are taking two bikes for supply trips to carrefour.

This year we were on a different site up past the start finish line and for a change didnt venture out much (or in the car at all). Found it was pretty quiet, which was a completely different experience - I am glad we didnt see any of this described here!

It is a real shame, when I started going there were people having a laugh, doing some fun things, a burnout, driving a golf cart round etc, but now its gone way beyond that in many places.

I think if you have been a bunch of times and know your way around, its easy to avoid, but if you have not, then its extremely easy to get into the thick of this. I dont know why the police/ACO dont stop it either?!

I saw more police this year than any other and there were loads of CRS around too which you hardly saw a few years back. I guess with a place the size of Le Mans, they're likely to attend in a few places only for the few troublemakers to move on to somewhere quieter. When I walked through Houx Annex roundabout between midnight and 1am, it was completely dead.

You were lucky.

My 9th year at LM and although I've seen it all go mental at night outside Karting & BSJ when we've stayed there, I've never seen anything bad during daylight beyond mild intimidation which is usually satisfied with a few revs and bit of tyre squeal. I've never even been worried about having the roof off.

However this year I went through the (small) crowd at MB around 5:30 with my roof on and windows down and was on the receiving end of the contents of two bottles of shaken up beer - all over my face, my clothes and the my car interior. They were Brits as well. I was well p****d off, called them fking s and left in a hurry. Gendarme waved at me to calm down as I drove off, but he was on his own and wasn't going to intervene.

After an hour of cleaning with water back at camp the car luckily was none the worse, but my view on getting around on Friday has now changed somewhat.

We alway make sure our cars are tucked away on the campsite by Friday mid afternoon. It's just not worth the risk. I was staying in BSJ as well and got called a fking wker for not doing a burn out in my car in a traffic queue as I was arriving on the Thursday !

I think the Danes staying near BSJ are just as bad as the Brits.

Beausejour roundabout Friday around midnight as we cycled back from Arnage village, where the CRS made a point of showing a big presence ironically, we passed probably a mile of queuing traffic to the roundabout where a baying mob where climbing all over a 4x4 and hammering fists on a couple of other vehicles.

The message I get from all this is the local authority along with the ACO have instructed the police to tread very lightly in order to not upset the gravy train.

I hope that is not true, and would suggest that allowing it to happen is more likely to upset the gravy train.

To the gentlemen who stepped out into the road on the way to Houx to encourage me to do a burnout, I offer my sincere apologies. It's just, like many on here, I'm all up for a bit of high jinx but it stops at intimidating behaviour. So when you jumped out right next to that whopping great puddle, well, there really was only one outcome.

Haven't been since 2006, used to be the Houx Roundabout that was the messy place, has this moved now?
