Had a great Le Mans this year, one of the best in the 9 years I've been going despite a little Mad Friday annoyance.

But one moment summed it up for me - on the way back today we'd parked up at the Calais Eurotunnel terminus to have a look at some lovely cars then go off for a bit of shopping. As we stand chatting in the entrance a lady with a massive smile on her face interrupts us and says "Were you at Le Mans?". "Yes" say we, then she shows us a pic of the pit garage for car 19 - the winning Porsche 919.

She then tells us she's Nick Tandy's mum, how proud she is, about the party after the race, and how Audi and Toyota were invited, etc etc.

She's so made up and happy that the day after the race her and her friend are wandering around stopping random strangers to tell them about her weekend. She was totally on cloud 9 smile

I very much doubt that we're the only people she spoke to, I bet she's button-holed everyone in the terminal who looks like they were at the race. It was a lovely moment meeting her. I just can't imagine this happening after an F1 race!

[Edit - for those who don't know who Nick Tandy is: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/motorsport/33133625 ]

That's good to hear. She should be extra proud seeing as it was Nick's stints that pretty much won it for Porsche.

What's the betting he hardly gets mentioned in the press though!

For those that missed it, Tandy and Gavin were on ITV central local news yesterday and on BBC East evening news earlier in the week. Check out catch up TV. Personally I think it should have been on national news.

He did a talk in the camp opposite ours. Jan Magnussen's mum/dad were also in there selling his merchandise all weekend.

Just got back from France today and watched the (video'd) highlights of F1 qually on BBC.

From their commentary, apparently Nico Hülkenberg "jumped in a Porsche" and appears to have won Le Mans all on his own...
