Well booked tickets, and cabins going out of Plymouth this time.

Once in France under four hour drive to the track.

I have done Dover, Portsmouth's route before now.

Another plus point save fuel, as well relax in the cabin then already for the drive.

Yeah I've booked as well, I cant believe how early they have released the bookings. It used to be about October time, makes it very easy to miss out.

I think the time has come to consider other options than Dover Calais and the tunnel, anyone got experiences of Newhaven - Dieppe?

One of our tribe has done this a few times on his motorbike. No dramas.

Dieppe can be a bit hairy getting off the ferry if the swell is up.
I did it in a Caterham and had to time my exit for when the boat was on mid rise.

Not this year, this was a few years ago.

Nice town though.

If you're taking one of the 'longer' ferry crossings going over-night and getting a cabin works well.

Once on the boat both driver's and passenger's can enjoy a beer before getting some kip and rolling off the ferry fresh and ready for the short drive to Le Mans/longer drive with some detours.

+ One here.
We always get the 11pm from Portsmouth and sleep in a cabin, most efficient form of travelling.

We've done Pompey - St Malo and Caen in the past but gave up because of the cost and inconvenient crossing times on the way back. Newhaven - Dieppe seems hardly worth getting a cabin for a 4 hour crossing, they're not showing prices for next June yet, but I'm guessing somewhere in between Dover and Pompey crossings?
Got stuck in Operation Stack on the way to the Spa 24 at the weekend and narrowly missed the chaos on the way back, then again striking French can hit at any port.

Have to say I don't like the idea of using Dover Calais route by either train or ferry.
Can only see the problems getting worse there until someone gets off there arse and brings the Army in.

The longer crossings (although more expensive) may be the better option with less disruption?

Geographically, Portsmouth works for me at about 90 miles from home but I like the high speed option, left this year at 9am with a 3hr crossing to Cherbourg. Returned the same way at about 5pm from Cherbourg again, parked in the drive at home by 10pm.

Have booked the same for next year going out Thursday, back on Monday, a bit under £200 return with frequent traveller discount.

Well the Government has now admitted the problems at Calais are now likely to last for some time!

Looks like Portsmouth will be getting my business wink

If you can find someone in club voyage to act as a friend and share their membership details with you it'll save you around 10 percent on Brittany. And it's completely legit. Apologies if you're already aware of this.

Just booked Brittany out from Portsmouth to Caen. In spit of the cost makes a lot of sense living in Somerset. And who knows how long the debacle in Calais will continue.

Living in bristol and a few who go with us are mostly from the south west, since 2006 we have gone via portsmouth, Southampton or Plymouth every time apart from once when we did the sea cat in 2008. Never again. Much easier to get a local ferry.

We will be going next year and we all would book our ferry But as the people we book with allocate all pitches to people who went the year before without asking if they want to go we are unsure if we are able to stay in the same camp site. Which is a shame. We go every other year. And never heard of this before.

Maybe the classic if we are unable to find a secure camp site for the 24 hour le mans.

I booked Portsmouth-Caen yesterday and the price had dropped massively.

I got a quote for £900 for car and caravan in November, Yesterday same setup same dates and it had dropped to £500. All I need to do now is get a caravan!
