Stickering up for 2016

I know it's early days, but I'm looking for inspiration. I plan on taking my son in 2016 (first time for both of us), and am looking for sticker inspiration. I like the JPS scheme and think this would look good, but not much of a Jaguar link. Any other ideas?

What to put on a car already covered in stickers! We'll be Team Langoustining as per usual, so a prawn will be somewhere, but I'm a bit lost where to start!

Well, 2016 would be the 50th anniversary of this car winning Le Mans:

If you're going for anniversaries surely the 60th of Ecurie Ecosse's first win, in a D-Type would be more fitting. Though hard to sticker.

I'm actually trying to come up with a scheme for that which would work on my blue XJ - which is about as un-D Type-like as you can get

I've been thinking about next years stickers as well.

So here's my Le Mans history...


2005 and 2006 - hadn't discovered stickers


2007, my first foray into stickers, they cost a lot (and then we discovered Holographics the following year!)


So in 2008 we started to have some Sticker fun! (thanks Dan!)


2009 was more of the same


But in 2010, 2 fat blokes bought some blond wigs and made a plan in a pub over a few beers


How to follow the well received hair dressers theme? Well I didn't, just went stripes again


In 2012 I had spent a lot on a full respray so the MX5 went naked (but an Aston came with us so nobody noticed!)


In 2013 time was short and I was running out of ideas so Scissorheads made a come back (this time my passenger was a lady and not another fat bloke though!). Oh and the eye lashes barely made Dover.


2014 was another idea hatched in a pub. Fartini is funny right? Sounds like Martini and Fart? We thought so. Had the stickers on for a month until someone suggested that I google the meaning of Fartini - remember, if you see the meaning of Fartini you CANNOT unsee it!


So after the shock of Fartini I decided to keep it sensible and as the MX5 was originally a homage to Lotus I decided to go for my take on Gold Leaf Lotus Racing. In some ways my favorite but it took a little bit of paint off the rear wing (and also took some paint off the Freelander grill that I asked my mate to drive with the tents in)


So I thought about 2016, I haven't done anything with green and green and red go, slightly stumped I asked Stickers4.com for a suggestion and they came up with this....


Not sure if that will work so I'm still thinking :-)

My first year next year. Roughly how much do people spend stickering up? The odd sticker here and there I presume will be relatively cheap but what about the fartini/lotus efforts?

I'd say most people don't spend anything/don't sticker-up at all.
Of those that do it's generally name stickers/flags for each team member on the windows and some door stickers. £3-£4 each.
Finally you have the people who go crazy (in a good way). As much as you want up to a couple of grand for full car wraps!

Do people find these stickers damage their paint at all?

If I make sure it's applied properly, to clean paint, and removed with a hair dryer - surely I'll be OK?

If I end up taking my Twingo, I may go for an Alpine Renault vibe.

In the 3 yrs I've been stickering up cars for the annual pilgrimage, we've never had a problem. I've always made sure the panels are well prepped/polished beforehand and the paint is in good condition with any stone chips dealt with well in advance. I apply the decals using the method of spraying the panel first with water to assist applying them and when removing them I use very warm water poured over the panel before I attempt to start pulling them off.

To be honest, our lot haven't even gone this far to prepare/mitigate, and had no problems to report. The only time we've abstained was when one of the group had his car fully wrapped last year, which seemed like good sense.

In eleven years we've had 2 instances, one was on really crap paint!
The other was on my resprayed MX5 (last year) where I'd applied big stickers and took them off in the cold, it pulled the lacquer off a piece of paint about the size of a 5p.
Actually there was a 3rd instance when I put stickers on the grill of the Freelander which is plastic with silver paint and it pulled a bit of that off.

I think the moral is, make sure you've got polish applied and you remove when it's warm, and don't do it on plastic.
