Thanks for turning up and hope you all had a good drive down and start to what turned into an extraordinary weekend.

In addition to the problems at Eurotunnel and unpredictable weather, I’ll apologise now for the two ‘moments’, the village speed humps and the road chippings! Hopefully the fun bits in between made up for it though. Also, as a result of the heavy traffic in Le Mans, it proved impossible to keep everyone together, so I hope you all made it to Carrefour or camping without too many problems.

I found the drive back yesterday a slog in comparison and hope you all made it back safely.

I’ll be doing something similar next year, but perhaps sticking to faster, wider roads, so keep an eye out for a new thread in September.

I bumped into a few of you over the weekend and it was great to hear all the positive feedback, but if you’ve any suggestions on how to improve it for next year, please let me know.

It was an awesome convoy down Miner, hampered by some st weather in parts but so enjoyable.

It was great catching up with some of you guys on-site in Le Mans afterwards, and that random meeting on the Autoroute today Srlister! I didn't realise it was you until you drove past and flashed your hazards! Those of you travelling back today, I hope you weren't too delayed, I know Tomm783 and the two lads got stuck in Calais... utter rubbish!

Miner, I loved it mate and look forward to next year smile

It was great. At least it was mostly dry on Thursday, yesterday was non stop rain.

We took the ferry from Dunkirk and there were hardly any queues. Glad I didn't book the tunnel this year.

Had a great time. Never done something like this before but would totally do it again! First time driving on the other side of the road so following others made that easier too! Traffic coming into Le Mans though almost claimed my clutch, had to pull over for a bit til things cooled down a bit, hence why I disappeared!

Finally got back home at 4am last night after queuing at the eurotunnel since 5pm. Not the best way to end the trip!

Thanks for organising it miner!

Without question the best way to start an epic weekend. The route was fantastic and full of "how the hell did he plan this route unless he clicked through on google Street View" moments. The roads were fantastic fun and even my passengers enjoyed themselves (despite scaring the st out of them). The journey home was long and the Eurotunnel st but it didn't put a dampener on what has been probably one of the most enjoyable weekends I have ever had.

Thank you Miner and if you are starting to plan next year, I'm in!

A HUGE thank you Miner....that was epic, everything was right, the speed, the route, the numbers and even the guys who were on it ...it was a great way to start, my only gripe was we very nearly lost you at the first and only toll when you all shot off and we had a 50/50 decision to make as the road split, thank god we got the right one. I thought we was having a sweeper !!! That must have taken serious amounts of planning so hats off to you fella. And Tom....I never realised Golf R's were that quick !!! Hopefully see you ALL again next year..... Shaun & Olllie (The 911)

It looks like we all may have been captured by sl55kleemann on the Autoroute on the way to our Convoy meet-up:

He'll be uploading them to his website soon: http://www.onroadtolemans.com/

Miner,

Thank you so much for arranging what was an absolutely epic journey, I could only reiterate others comments; great cars, great guys & great route.

We can only imagine the amount of work put into planning that route, you're a gent.

Hope to see you all next year!

Aww, thanks for all the nice comments guys; much appreciated and glad you all enjoyed it.

Moose64 – Apologies about the close shave at the toll. You’re correct, we should have had the sweeper in place. A combination of being unable to load the route into the Golf’s satnav, there being more cars than he’d expected and the thought of getting left behind, he chickened out at the last minute! Next year, we’ll have a designated sweeper and I’ll provide a walkie-talkie to stay in touch. Regarding the speed of those Golf R’s… annoying isn’t it! On paper, they shouldn’t be that quick, but in reality they are seriously rapid cross-country cars. That white car was £42.5k by the way!

Tomm783 – Did you manage to get the route loaded into your satnav? If so, it would be great to know how.

I had the route up on my satnav for most of the stages, most of the time it followed it fine, but stage two in particular it was trying to take me a completely different route to what we were on it seemed!

Hello,
Thanks again for sorting this out really enjoyed the route down.
We have a few photos which I’ll get off my brothers phone, attached is a few I stole from his facebook rolleyes God knows what filter he had on…

Potatoes + bro, was funny driving for miles then seeing you both, not surprised you didn’t see me at first, the rain and spray was intense! At that point we had no fuel and had to turn off at the next station, glad I topped up, as the traffic was mad when we got to the tunnel ‘compound’…

My cars fixed, rear speed sensor covered in metal dust, Bluetooth dongle wouldn’t clear it, but a clean, laptop with Rheingold did. It was proper scary in the rain with no ABS, DSC or tarmac at points laugh
