Has anyone used the ACO supplied campsite Wi-Fi and if so what was it like. Can remember it being advertised this year, can't remember the cost.

First I've heard of it - which sites is this supposed to cover?

Absolutely useless. Have to log in each time you unlock phone. Slower then edge networks. Stick with a mobile roaming plan. I got 4g most of the time last year.

^^ this.

If you're on Vodafone then their Euro traveller deal is £3 a day then use your UK data/minutes package as normal. Works well throughout race week except from Saturday morning onwards when too many people slows all the networks even 4G to a crawl.

I had Three last year, which gave unlimited data for free. A great little perk!

However, 4G coverage was a touch oversubscribed/laboured, particularly on the weekend. Just a case of remembering to be patient, and not expecting miracles with such a large volume of people using the same service.

Given that you will probably in close proximity to 50,000 people probably trying to do the same, you can imagine the Wifi may struggle.

I have tried this in the past - no dice. Going for the satellite dish in the campsite option this time.

Absolutely not. A dish/box setup is the only way.

Not the only way - I think all the private camping providers offer a marquee with TV race coverage.

How do you think the Camping Companies do it ? Same way, Sat Dish and Box and Large screen TV.

Which is what most people have.

I really like the idea of being able to see what is going on the TV while in my Grandstand seat or in the bar. So I can see what drama is unfolding on other parts of the circuit, as the big screen TV's are not always easily view able.

The Kangaroo TV option is sadly missed by our group, we rented one year and it really did help while we were out and about.

Yes, purely campsite use at breakfast and any time we are away from the track. We have a dish and a Freeview box.

I think the question about Wifi was mostly related to being able to watch the TV feed via Eurosport on a tablet/phone. Which I agree would be very useful to see other parts of the track when in a grandstand seat.

It was only a tongue in cheek comment really (should've added a smiley). Just a way of showing my age I suppose. I agree the advantage of picking up the live TV broadcast would indeed be beneficial, a benefit I'll never understand how to access that's for sure laugh

You're absolutely correct, if not a little facetious. The chap was looking for a solution in absence of other options - therefore, this is the "only way" for him.
