I came back from a 1726 miles 5 European country driving trip for work on Tuesday evening.
We had to go freight as we were taking window displays for Bicester Village sites in Germany Belgium and France.
This year was the first time I had seen armed police stopping all traffic entering France from Belgium. Even the payage stations had armed police watching every car lorry bike and bus pass through, stopping and checking some.
On leaving Paris to get to Calais same again payage booths with armed police but no hold ups!
We arrived at Calais at 1700 and there was a que to get to check-in at the euro tunnel on the freight section, but none on the passenger from what I could see. We saw no migrants on the roads to the tunnel nore at the gate either. But this could be due to the now huge noticeable Police in the area around the entrance and the train loading areas. We even had three dog sections running up and down the lines of lorries waiting to get on the trains. We were on the train in an hour and a half 1830. So a little hold up but to be honest id sit there for three four hours if it meant no-one who was not meant to get to England got found, its worth putting up with!

Funny people want Security, until it holds up there own travel plan.

Makes you laugh, same when their house is broken into. Then they buy a house alarm etc.

I realise it depends where you are located in the UK but for the Classic this year we're going out on Eurotunnel Ashford to Coquelles & return Cherbourg to Portsmouth. This should give us the best of both worlds.

2150 Sunday 19th

UkCobra, what time are you leaving to make the check in at 2120.

I am thinking of leaving around 1300-1400 to miss the mad scramble.

I always leave straight after the end of the race. Usually get to the Tunnel and wait for a few hours. Taking a slower mode of transport this year, so may park outside again this year and avoid the scramble out of Houx.

Just as a bit of added excitement: France are playing Switzerland on Sunday night at 2000 in Lille which means that any Normandy based supporters will be using the same roads to get to the game. I can see Rouen getting pretty tasty.
