Decided to drive round that way to see how things are getting on.
Can see now what's happening, road traffic leaves the circuit aprox 100 metres before the corner and the new roundabout is roughly where the gates were.
We will be missing some banking but will have to wait and see what happens when the fence goes up.

Quite apart from the destruction of the last 'gritty' part of the circuit, God knows how much that's cost when they could have just put in some traffic lights if the junction was that dangerous.

A French friend of mine reckons that some senior Civil Servant in the DDE gets dropped €100 every time a roundabout is constructed in France.

Roundabouts seem to be their one-size-fits-all solution to every traffic problem, throughout France.

Well it's not altering Arnage corner from a racing perspective and it looks like there is a considerably increased spectator area towards the entry at Indianapolis if I'm looking at the bits in red correctly so this is good. I guess the roundabout is going in to improve traffic flow around the race itself - potentially allowing 2 way traffic to and fro as the Gendarmes can close the two exits that lead to the track leaving (if you're coming from the south) the left turn into Arnage free.

Dare I suggest this might actually be an improvement?

Have to say, looking at that sketch, I agree with you. Good access to Indy, and hopefully still a banking at Arnage too. Closed road, on one side of r'bout, with traffic access hopefully improved on t'other, and the 1st parking field unaltered.

As you say we will have to wait and see.....but might be a nicer, if slightly less atmospheric place to spectate.

And a view taken from the old entrance to Arnage. You can see the banking on the left, and it will extend more towards Indianapolis, just like it did before the big gravel trap was put iin.

Hi all.

Does anyone have an update on the works at Arnage and/or any recent photos?

It's moving along. The new roundabout is nearly finished and the spectator bankings are turfed. The weather is great for new grass being warm and wet at the moment. I wouldn't worry about it. It'll be far superior to the previous viewing facilities.

Glad to hear it's progressing well. Thanks for the update lowdrag.

Hope they don't "upgrade" the catering to the rest of the track standard. Aways liked the homely feel and a coffee at 5am

Really?

My memories of Arnage catering are of very dissapointing half cups of luke warm coffee.

Hi chaps,

Does it look like the existing banking leading up to Arnage corner will remain? That was my favourite viewing spot so I hope its the same or extended, but not removed!

Looked finished and shiny new as I passed today. Mind you, it was in the middle of a spectacular thunderstorm so a more balanced report will be posted next time!

Well that looks pretty good. I would imagine they will keep that roundabout open at least one way, if not both ways.

Have they actually managed to improve something here? This is worrying.

Looks good, like the r'bout motif too. Other than the viewing at Indy corner, can the circuit be further accessed lower down, towards Mulsanne ?

If it is further back it sucks, the original banking was fairly close to the arnage corner that looks a fair bit back from the track if your right.

Don't think that is correct..

Could be wrong, but there is banking visible next to arnage and this resumes after the new road section and looks like it goes around to give views of the entry into Indianapolis. The blue area you've marked looks flat, likely parking or camping.
