I will be on a ferry early on the Thursday morning this year. The problem is it will be my girlfriends birthday that day too so to avoid having to get up super early (live near Northampton) to make the ferry she wants a posh hotel near to the port (within 30 mins or so). Does anyone have any suggestions?

For easiness there is a Premier Inn and a Travelodge just of the M20 at Ashford Eureka Leisure Park, I have stopped here before when I've had an early crossing, and only 30 minutes to Dover.
Cant help you with anything more posh than that though.

Dover is a toilet. Canterbury is the place to stay which is straight up the A2 from Dover.

This place worth a try http://www.thefalstaffincanterbury.com

I grew up in Dover. My mother still lives there.
The quoted poster is quite accurate.

This holiday inn express is always a good bet: Holiday Inn Express : Ramsgate - Minster

Off the beaten track for channel crossing routes so usually a lot cheaper than the others and the facilities are good and it has the feeling of an art deco lido (just without the pool!). Good sized car park with security barrier.

The Folkestone premier inn is as good as they ever are and is more convenient than Ashford for an early start, not luxury though of course

If you think her commitment to your weekend deserves reward, why not try something a little more exotic?

A bit late now but just a thought for next time. If you were to get the ferry over on the Wednesday night there are plenty of hotels near to Calais. Then the next morning you can have a lie in and still be on the road earlier than you would have done staying in the UK.
